    Radiators ...

    I must have 4 bloody radiators here now .... and none that fit this bloody car .... AAAARrrrrrrhhhh.... How many types of bloody oil coolers is there.

    I now have radiators with no oil cooler, radiators with two oil coolers, radiators with flare type connectors onto the oil coolers.... and now two different sized god damned 'O'ring type oil cooler connectors.

    talk about bloody frustrating. They are about 0.5mm different in size. I'm betting one is metric and one A/F.





    Why the hell some many differences on the same bloody radiator over the years ?

    the adaptors in the brass tank unscrew to bsp
    from memory - ymmv

    this is exactly why i had the exchangers removed from my end tanks

    standalone oil coolers
    Roads?.. Where we're going, we don't need roads...

    I really don't know how to make sure I buy the right radiator. The motor is a discovery motor, the the range rover is a 5spd factory car .... er, at least the parts are from one. But it also has a discovery R380 fitted. Who know what combination of oil cooler hoses are there.

    I thought the R380 was cooled by a finned tube arrangement that sat underneath the radiator as a stock set up. Didn't use the rad at all.

    Yeah, the oil cooler is for the motor.

    I like that JLR notion............. let's cool the engine oil to 95 degrees C by running it through the rad.

    I rekcon they probably help with engine wear. As your heating the oil on cold starts using the coolant

    I can sort of get my head around the idea of running auto trans fluid through the rad to maintain a relatively constant temp so that all the valves and shenanigans in an auto trans have the best chance of delivering customer satisfaction in shift patterns, etc.

    Then all the auto trans experts say heat kills autos 99% of the time........... so why pre-heat the fluid to say 95 C?.

    The C9 in my POS only uses a remote cooler in front of the rad (in front of less than 25%).

    Possibly to prevent wear and have smoother driving sooner. The trans and the engine run at about the same temp when warm ( I believe the TC can get quite a bit hotter under load ) but the engine will warm up faster than the auto, especially in cars that are emission compliant, where fast warmup is mandated.
