I would love a V8 diesel in my Rangie. Not a boat anchor, but a modern design of about three and a half litres capacity. Perhaps two turbos and full electronic control...
Does anyone want to fund a TDV8 conversion for me?![]()
Or, buy a Supercharged V8 out of a Jaguar XJR
Model Jaguar XJR 4.2 V8 Supercharged
Engine 4196cc, eight cylinders
Power 400bhp @ 6100rpm
Torque 408 lb ft @ 3500rpm
There would be an odd one or two at the wreckers![]()
If all you are after is bulk horsepower then pick up a Chrysler Hemi 426. A bit big and heavy but a reliable 600+ horsepower and 6000+ usable rpm. Sound real good as a bonus. Not sure if aluminium versions are still available, but may be some used ones about in drag racing circles. Of course, squeezing it under a Range Rover bonnet may take the skills of a Smokey Yunick.

I'm honestly leaning towards the diesel option I must admit.........currently driving a 5.0L NF fairlane an gas to work eveyday at the moment........and its getting a bit hungry at the bowser........let alone a fourby. tdi or izuzu the easiest? Or mabe some other suggestions?
Could always package one of these in along with a 6L80 E tranny
VM Motori S.p.A.
Mind you it might be worth more than the RR when done.
landy tdi will be much easier, but the Isuzu will be much more rewarding.
I have drawn up almost my entire 4BD1T conversion in 3D cad and can supply drawings as needed. It bolts up to rangie V8 mounts but you need an Isuzu gearbox and a new shaft cut to fit the LT230.
The only part I haven't sorted out properly is the gear linkage for the Isuzu box. Mine was mongreled into place and works but isn't pretty feeling.
