I'd forgotten about this.
When I fitted to new diff and checked the alignment, it was found the diff housing was bent over 12mm.![]()
No way the Maxidrive locker would work like this so we had to use a 20ton jack and chain to stress it enough to straighten as my porta power didn't have the guts to do it alone. (No pics as could have been a OH&S issue with the stress on that little chain.) Pressed the housing over 20mm to get close. Now has a diff truss so shouldn't bend again. In hind sight, I probably should have welded an internal sleeve inside the short side as Ben did to his county, very good idea that.![]()
Digging up the dead,
We see vehicles come and go around here, but the Rangie just seems to soldier on and slowly improve over the years.
This one still helps run our property and often has heavy trailers in tow.
,
I still can't kill the bloody gutless 3.5 and at a tad over 400,000ks, is milestone for any abused engine.
Does not use oil, not use coolant, is down on power as cam is shot but starts, runs and works well.
We have a fresh 3.9 here ready to drop in with the blower etc but I'm now considering fitting the blower on this old 3.5 with a new EFI cam as I believe these engines are much more robust. They have to be as we have overheated this thing several times with hoses blowing out and it still seems fine.
Many 3.9's and 4.6's in our area have had massive issues due to minor overheating as liners shift etc.![]()
The duel lockers and its standard appearance has surprised many when we play in the harder stuff. We still have a very low center of gravity as not lifted yet and I can drive crazy lines with out falling over.Had many offer to buy it as so surprised with the agility but like my series Land rovers, shes not for sale.
