Thread: Range Rover Vogue 1989, 3.5 Auto

Rebuilt engine and new water pump are a plus. Good one! But what you pay will surely be dictated by the cost of repairs to get the vehicle to roadworthy stage. And if the radiator wasn't pulled, stripped down and fully reco'd when the engine was done then this would seem to be a necessity now.

I think more info is needed.

Based on my searching and keeping an eye on ebay, you shouldnt pay more than $2k. There are plenty of very good rangies going for cheap prices. This one has had work and has reasonably high mileage.

Thanks for the feedback - the vehicle is in excellent condition for a 20 year old vehicle and yes, the radiator has been done. No rust that I could see (compared to another vehicle that really showed it's age with poor paintwork and rust).

Only other concern was that underneath there was some oil leakage on one of the discs and the power steering hoses also leaked (again , I looked at another vehicle 2day that also had an oil leak but much less so than this one). Otherwise, the car was in remarkable condition for a 20 year old vehicle.

Hey Angus,

Like you I have been keeping an eye on e bay and I must say that the vehicles I have looked at in the low price range have been in much worse condition than the one I speak of. Again, I looked at another today (for the same asking price) that was in much worse condition.

I guess I am working off the Redbook pricing (and probably, so are the sellers) and trying to ascertain what the real going value for a vehicle of this pedigree would be (like everyone, I don't want to pay too much and thus my question to those with expertise in this matter)

Franz. I really don't think that you can apply Red Book or similar pricing to RRs of this vintage. Surely the price revolves around the condition of the car, what has been spent on it, what needs to be spent on it and how much it is worth to you. The desirabaliity factor.

Then you need to factor in - is it a daily driver, a 'toy/pet' for occasional use or a car to be trashed in the mud without consideration to longevity and how long you intend on keeping it.

Guess what I'm saying is, it's worth exactly how much you wish to pay.

I payed 2.5k for mine a few years ago. In some ways they are the last good Rangie made. No ABS,SRS,EAS etc.

The Viscous and 3.5 are the only let down. Very simple and reliable otherwise.

Price to me depends on body and interior condition as they are starting to age now. Running gear is usualy updated in time.

89 Model. Was a very nice example as had fresh paint and interior. Also rebuilt running gear and very well sorted electrical system. Still trying to kill it but the 3.5 refuses to give up. Has had a lot of hard use. I'll end up pulling the 3.5 out as a good runner as I need more power for towing.
