not something you want to do if you've never done a gearbox before and/or dont have a manual.
G'day all,
this my first post on this forum, so dont be to harsh.
My problem is with my 86' classic gearbox, it seems a little to hard to motivatate it to change gears. I was wondering if a overhaul of the gearbox was a job the average bloke could do or if it was one i should **** off down to the garage. (its a 5 speed manual)

I would give it a oil change first .... might loosen it up

I have managed to get my hands on the workshop manual. It seems to be a pretty big job for a person to do without a decent workshop, so i might just give it an oil change and wait until i have the funds to get it done by a mechanic.
I am running Castrol Syntrans in mine. Shifts better than ATF.
Is it a LT77? Reverse to the left and up.
I am not sure what model the gearbox is but reverse is to the left then up.
That is the LT77. A bit renowned for being weak, but I haven't broken mine... yet.
Hard to change gears may be the clutch dragging because the hydraulics are buggered. This iss probably the most common and likely fault. My problem is with my 86' classic gearbox, it seems a little to hard to motivatate it to change gears. Does it grind or just sort of refuse to go in?
Grind is gearbox hard is usually clutch.
Did it start relatively suddenly or after you changed oil?
