Went for a drive today down the southern exp way to TRS. Bought some s/h shockers for the rear. Bought 2 hub seals as well. Just about had to sell snoopy to pay for the seals. $42.00 for 2 seals? Bloody rediculous. $6.50 at repco. Must be trying to suppliment the xmas do i think.

Anyway the bush pig can maintain 100 kmh quite ok. No black or blue smoke. Just a bit of steering shimmy but its just wheel balance. So wheels to get balanced tomorfow as well.

Tried to undo the drivers door hinge bolts today. No probs. Came undone easy as with the impact driver. I was told "nah mate you'll have to drill em out and buy new hinges and bolt kits from us."
They came out of the s3 easy as as well when i took those doors off. Some ppl just dont wanna even try. Im gonna put the s3 hinges on for the moment till i can get the right ones that take the mirrors. Gonna buy new mirrors and heads from ebay. Then get flat mirror glass cut and glued on. Cant handle convex mirrors and froper flat glass heads are over a hundred bucks each

So tomorrow will be putting the shocks on.
I changed the oil and filter today. I also took the original army fitted fuel filter off and fitted a new one. Some ppl are so slack. The PO hasnt changed the fuel filter since hes had it. Over 3 years. So i thought id check the fuel sedimentor thingy at the bottom of the fuel tank. As soon as i touched the plastic drain plug it started ****ing out diesel. So i had to clamp the feed hose off and i removed the whole thing. The sedimentor was chock full of crap. It was almost 2 inches deep. Cleaned it all up. Cleaned up the tread for the plug and fitted a bolt and washer to it. I had no new "o" rings so i reused the old ones with some rubber grease to stop them getting pinched. Then bled the new fuel filter. Started up straight away. Gee that motor runs sweet as.

Well thats all on the perentie today. Geez i love driving that thing

    Cheers Rod

    Dusty, but alive...

Finally got off my backside and went and (on Mick Marsh's recommendation elsewhere) bought a Century 86Z battery to replace the incredibly dead one it came with.

Started her up, went for a long enough drive to get everything warmed up and the fan kicking in, and had a good crawl around under and over the engine bay. Aside from the steering box leak that I knew about anyway (hopefully just a seal that needs replacing - see my other thread), everything seems ok and there were no worrying noises noted.

Can't recall when she last moved, but I remember getting back from the UK in early July and thinking "I really must get a new battery", so it'll be at least six months. And annoyingly the main reason I haven't driven her sooner (my dodgy back) is still an issue. Ah well.

Next job, thorough clean, put the canvas back on, and get ready to reluctantly sell her

And now I have a big tear in the canvas above the drivers seat because I thought I could put it back on on my own. Grrrr...

If the vehicles fitted with Bosch Electrics lasted as long as vehicles fitted with Lucas Electrics, maybe we would call Robert Bosch the King of darkness!!!! LOL

I've been nstalling a manually switched reversing camera and a reversing/camping light both off No.2 battery in the RFSV.

It all seems to work OK, the major problem has been finding where & how to duct the wiring and the best spot to locate the screen.

There were more options in the FFR I had fitted out previously.

    Pics will follow when complete.
