I asked the question of a mate that engineers mods and fits blue plates in Queensland and has had a lot to do with land rovers and perenties

Yes is the answer to your question.........

Cost, if he was to do the work $3500

Cost doing yourself >$1000 including engineering

It's all about getting to the right advice first up

Yes. I agree with that. I thought the IC and AP would better suit what he is trying to achieve.
I was at Pucka the other day. What should drive past me? A GS with troops loaded up in the back. They were crammed in.

No problem at all fitting either seats or rear belts for side ways facing passengers. ( Queensland that is )

We have completed two recently, one Army one civilian.

A little more difficult for rear facing seats ie RFSV, but possible if you follow the regs correctly.

Landybitz - I'm hoping to throw a pair of these with belts facing each other in the back of my hardtop Puma directly behind the two front seats.

Is that something you think could be achieved in QLD?

Probably, but not as easily as you might imagine, mainly because of the way they would have to be attached. You'd have to build a decent size frame for them to bolt to.

A better set would be the kind that fold, have their own internal drop down folding legs and mounts in the floor for the legs to locate into. Then you only have to worry about the security of the mounts for the back rest and the hinge bracing.

    Rear seats of Cargo Perentie

I have fitted three lap seat belts on the passenger side rear bench seat. I was told by the guy that gave me the pink slip for the last rego that after the belts were fitted I would need to come back and have an RMS (RTA) "adjustment of records" form completed and processed. He said that the actual capacity is 11 persons, 8 in the back and 3 in the front (small seat over the centre rifle rack). If registered for 11, you need a bus licence, so I have stuck with just the three in the back and three up front. It helps if the person in the middle in the front is small !!. I have not carried anyone in the extra seats yet as I have been too busy fixing other things to get back for the "adjustment of records" check.

Unless the NSW rules have changed in the past 12 months, this is not correct. You can drive up to a 12 seater with a normal car license. Up to last year I owned a Hiace Commuter that was converted down from 14 to 12 seats for this reason. Certified and all.

Having said that, anything with more than 10 seats would be classified as a "heavy vehicle", for inspection purposes, regardless of weight. Thus a HVIS certified inspector would need to issue the pink slip. But you can still drive up to a 12 seater vehicle on a car license.

    (This is for NSW).
