Mind leaks also so I am going to have to do this as well. I would imagine blind alum rivets would be the way to go but will have to wait until I remove it to check the rivet size. Hopefully someone like Blknight might know what they use as it looks like a common problem. Nearly every 6by I have looked at had had the roof panel redone.

My 6x6 with the roof hatch doesn't leak but the 6x6 with the top mount tyres does leak on both sides like a sieve. When it comes to young rivets or the older pop rivets, I don't think there is a lot of difference in quality. With bolts and other fastners there are different grades of tensile strength. But I think a rivet is a rivet. They are a very basic fastner. I would think the quality adhesive and method of application would be far more critical. I would use the sikaflex for windscreens and plenty of it, but in saying that, I've never resealed a roof in a 6x6 before. I would not use roof and gutter guard silicon or even RTV ( room temperature vulcanizing ) silicon. INHA, it's crap !!

Ummm - not really. Go and see a fastener specialist. They will have a plethora of options available for you to choose from.

Common old rivets are usually aluminium with a steel shaft, and not sealed, and that's mostly what you'll get from Bunnings etc.

If you were in Adelaide I'd send you to Fred Worthleys, as they have every imaginable combination of size, style and material. You will have someone equivalent in Victoria, but Worthleys will probably ship to you. This is their web link: Rivets . They only do trade pricing, so you won't get ripped off.

I got some high strength Monel rivets from Worthleys and they have been excellent. They are used in boat building, and are stronger than stainless.

So, there are a large number of pop rivets up there. I want to use rivets that are a bit better quality than the Bunnings variety.
What size do I require, brand and where do I get it? What do the Army use?

My 6x6 cab is all one piece welded steel, hot dipped galv and classed as a ROPS I believe.
No rivets in the roof.

The rivets you require are Huck rivets in 3/16" size and of the correct length for the job. See here. https://www.ovesco.com.au/products.p...name=Magna-Lok

There is no comparison between these and a pop rivet. They are serious rivets and basically resist all attempts to drill them. A small angle grinder with a 1mm thick cut off wheel used to slice (carefully) through the pin works and then drive the pin through.
You cannot use a hand tool with these, you will require an air riveter. 3/16" is the largest size you can use air for, larger sizes require a hydraulic gun. These are also the rivets that are used in the truck tray body, but some in the tray are of the countersunk type.
