the heck are you doing awake at 3am!?

This is kinda what I'm after. Shame it doesn't have a part number on that ad. Considering how much is riding on that link, i want to know that I'm buying and fitting a quality part.
It surprises me that you can't buy a new ball joint to get pressed into the steering (pitman) arm.
That's the first pre-assembled one I've seen with the goose-neck pitman arm. All the others have had the straight Discovery-type arm which I don't think works with the manual steering box.

    The search continues ........

I don't think the discovery drop arm will work in any defender unless you change the drag link and track rod end.

Looking at the drop arm, is it even possible to remove the pressed in ball joint? Maybe that's why you can't find a part number for it...

On the drop arm as fitted to the Perentie, the ball joint is not actually pressed in. It is constructed/assembled around the arm https://www.lrdirect.com/RBG000010-s...randed-bm.html

seems to be the only option.

No wonder you can't find a complete ball joint for the drop arm. I just checked the RPS and did a quick Google and read this

    Badco,
you're a champ. I've seen that one,but didn't get it as in the description it says that it is for a power steering box, not a manual one. I just wonder, seeing as we (or at least I ) don't have a power steering box, if that arm will fit?

I used my drop arm from my manual steering box on my power steering box when I did the conversion.

So as long as they are 4 bolt boxes they should be the same. I believe its just the 5 bolt boxes that differ, but I am prepared to be corrected on this

If you do go down that route, by a high quality puller

My mechanic will be doing the fix. There are many things that I'm ahppy to do on a vehicle, but suspension, brakes and clutch things are not something I'm willing to play with.

Hopefully he has the right tools for the job!
looks like LRdirect is going to get more money out of me.
