It's been tried behind the Perentie with a transfer case. Apparently the transmission doesn't last long. I'm pretty sure JC on this forum tried it, and he's a mechanic.

I think there is a Isuzu truck auto but converting it to 4wd was not viable for some reason.

I'd suggest tracking down a td5 army 110 and converting that to an auto from a disco 2. That's been done before.

    the most viable option.....

is to grab the rangie auto and Tcase from the same vintage Its been done on a county so it can be done on a perentie.

the important questions you need to answer first are

    1. how much do you want to spend.
    2. do you really need an auto? what if a pneumatic/hydraulic/electro clutch was fitted on a trigger on the shifter? could you then drive that?
    3. What OEM gear do you want to keep on the perentie? (Engine primarily)
    4. What do you want to achieve with the auto conversion?
    5. Do you want to stay in the realm of Land Rover hardware or are you willing to step out into other areas?
    6. Putting the auto in will probably involve remodeling the floor, is that likely to interfere with your disability?
    7. With the work thats going to be being done have you thought about anything else you might to need to do as part of your requirements (fitting better hold open latches on the doors)

    Hey bushie,

Check out this thread from the isuzu land section. They discuss auto boxes in some detail, if youre set on the isuzu and money isnt such an issue an auto can be done, as with anything like this be prepared for hidden costs!

I hope you do it, and if so it would be AWESOME if you took heaps of pics and started a build thread in the members rides section to share the knowledge.

    Good luck, hope this helps!

Well thanks guys your info it has been well thought out for my situation .I do a lot of work on my vehicles myself.Black night I have been looking at the electro magnetic clutch also hydraulic system operated of a power steering pump.Wicks89 will look at that site thanks for that.I have tossed around thr thought of different engine /auto combos ie Rangie motor and auto even 350 chev with t400 auto with a Marks adapter kit and Rangie transfercase but that would be sacrelidge no I would like to keep it as close to original as possible.Once again thanks guys cheers bushie

heres your long shot. and this is aimed at trying to keep your vehicle on as many landrover parts as I can.

grab an lt85 from a 4bd1 county for the bellhousing. (you might be able to do it with the housing off the lt95 you have
grab an auto NPR 4bd1 (your only after the flex plate, starter and mating gear)
grab a zf4hp22 out of a disco1 and stick the 24 front end into it. leave its bell housing off but keep it mated to the lt230 (if you go back to the defender tcase gearing its worth trying to get the later series and the handbrake to suit so you can utilise the cable handbrake which you can also remote actuate with an air off spring on maxi)

now just line up all the bits and massage the machining to make it all fit and line up then drop it in and make your new gearbox mounts for the LT230.

the short shot for the clutch is to leave the hydraulics alone and retrofit a punematic actuator into the pedal housing in place of the pushrod and poking the actuator out the front where the pedal stop/access hole for the clutch freeplay adjustment happens. pick the right combo of chokes on the valve block and you could have a fixed rate clutch but a smarter option is to put the release vent on a 1/8th turn ball valve and use that for a trigger with an electric micro past the closed position.

when you pull the clutch "trigger" in the vent closes at the trigger, when the vent is closed the micro actuates and flicks over the airvalve to run the actuator, when you back off the trigger, the micro opens and you control the release rate with the vent control on the trigger.

and if you're clever with valving control you can spin the pressures into the InHg world as opposed to the psi world and all of a sudden theres a vac pump youve already got and all you need is to do a little rejiggery rod extension and tower fabrication coupled with some fit an aftermarket turbo airfilter and stick the air intake on the left side while moving the engine stop wind motor to somewhere else because you're likely to want to put a brace to the clutch vac actuator down to around there to stop it from vibrating.

and wind on an 850 idle to help with the same thing.

There is a sure way of auto transifying your perentie. Firstly must be turboed. It's an easy conversion if you use 4hp24 internals in a 4hp22 and lt230. Use a compushift trans controller and a 4.6 p38a torque converter. It is a conversion that i am very tempted to do on mine as i already have the adapter plate and spigot adapter etc from my illfated sojourn with a discov1 hydraulic 4hp22 behind my turbo 4bd1...about 10k between failures...

no need for the question marks

there was no way that poor 22 was ever going to deal with an lt95 munching 4bd1t

can you imagine the pressure spikes in the TC against its vanes from the torque impulses?

Ha ha question marks appeared after an edit...😕

Thought it would be ok because i retained the flywheel and added to the weight of the torque converter and the adapter spigot locator
    Obviously i was mistaken...😕😣

Bushie, jra brought out the first 2 td5 auto combinations in the country ('99) specifically to retrofit a couple of Perentie trial vehicles. This was to explore extension of life options for the fleet.
REMLR has a few detail photos. Not 4bd1, but much less hassle/money/fab work.
    Cheers, BDave.
