    Perentie Spare rim/tire sizes.

    This has probably been discussed elsewhere, however I need answers in a somewhat timely fashion.

    I'm purchasing a spare for my perentie soon. I'm looking at a Wolf heavy duty rim on ebay that's 16x6.5

    It's a good $100 cheaper than the olive drab "genuine" rim, and at a glance appears to be the same thing, only black.

    I have michellin 16x7.5 tires fitted.

    Will said rim fit said tires? Or am I not reading the dimensions correctly?

    Yes.
    The Perentie rim is 6" from memory.
    An extra 1/2" wouldn't mean much.


    So, the wolf rim was free or did they pay you to take it?

    Sparkling new black paint. $195 from coomera nsw.
    not purchased yet. Blew budget on fortnights food, child, and chainsaw chains.

    Looking at some genuines on gumtree too.

    The good thing about the HD Wolf rims are you don't have to run tubes like the ROH rims.

    I'm happy running tubes. The secret is to get good quality tubes.

    The ROH rims with tyres usually go for around $50 - $100. They come up around the usual places from time to time.

    Well my conundrum is two fold.

    I'm embarking on an extended trip in 6 weeks and Must have a spare.

    I also have an affinity for new things.

    spend the money on the rim on a set of tyre pliers spare tubes a patch kit

    the only time you really need a spare rim is if you break one.

    In the places I need to go, (narrow mountain passes), changing a spare is preferable to repairing one.

    Mostly due to space and terrain constraints. Eg: single vehicle width cutting with 1500 foot drop off.

    I like to do a quick change and continue to camp and repair there.

    I might also add, my perentie did not come with spare.

    Make sure you check whether your spare wheel hoist works. Mine didn't come with a spare and found out the reason why after I bought a new one!

    Other option is Dynamic D steel rims. 1400Kg load rated with the correct offset (16x7 +20 offset). I have them on mine and I think they don't look too bad.
    They can be had for around $85 each new. You do need to get new wheel nuts for these rims as they have a different taper on the rim/nut than the Landrover ones, which is another $40 for a set of 20 nuts.

    <edit> where are you going? Those trails sound like fun!
