    Radios under PUMA drivers seat

Just found the compartment under the drivers seat - 2010 Puma 110 station wagon.

Looks like an ideal place to put the base units for my radios. I have CB and HF bases. Remote heads would be ??? when I decide I will put up pics etc.

The thing is... I have no idea what all those electronic gizmo's are in the compartment. Will they be effected by the RF from the radios?

I could try and find another place to put the units but space sure is at a premium.

    Problem solved!!!

    An Ex-Box from Mulgo.

Just spoken to Daniel. Should arrive in a week or so. Pics will be provided when done.

I have one of these. Electrics were moved from under the drivers seat to the ex-box which sits higher than standard....and now heaps of storage room under my driver seat.

The real plus is that the extra height of the cubby box which makes an excellent arm rest and makes shifting gears easier too!

An excellent accessory I would recommend to all!

Under the seat is not a good spot for electronic equipment if you are going to do water crossings sometimes.

Daniel (Mulgo) did suggest putting the radios in the Ex-Box.

As for water, the area under the seat seems to be well sealed. If water gets in, what happens to all the electronics in there?

I will wait and see how much room is in the Ex-Box and if the radios fit OK I think I will go that option.

    Hi Miky,

Under the seat is not well sealed I am afraid.

In answering your question what happenes to the electrics if water gets in? The answer I can give first hand is they get wet.

I had no issues from that experience!

I would not mount the radios under the seat. Not sure what brand radios you have but I would get a UHF that has the controls in the hand held unit and mount the body under the dash.

I don't own a HF but I would mount the body against the Cubby box, or in the ex-box as Daniel has suggested.

Thanks for the heads up on the under seat scenario.

I will put them in the new box under the cubby.

    I have:
    Icom 706
    Yaesu FT-8800R
    GME TX-3840

The first two with remote heads and the GME all controls on hand unit.

Never thought of that. Would free up the space in the Ex-Box.
I have not had the dash apart, but it seems as though there are just a few screw holding it together.
Must have a look to see how much room is under there in the Puma.

Agreed - under the seat is not where you want to be keeping anything sensitive to water. When I was travelling though Pakistan on the way to AU, I met a Swiss couple who had gone into water a bit too deep for their liking. When I met them two weeks later, they were sitting beside their now non functioning Landy, waiting for 5000 euro's worth of replacement electrickery to arrive from Europe. Maybe they were severely unlucky, but it was a big factor in me buying a 300tdi for my trip home...
