I connected my wire to a 12v switched power source - like the one that provides the main power to the head unit. That way the unit thinks the hand brake is on all the time.

Hi all...
just installed it - cd and radio work fine but for the dvd it has a safety mechanism that allows you only to play dvds when the handbrake is on - it has a wire that is supposed to connect to the park brake circuit - where is this? can it be connected to another circuit? Tried a direct link to the battery but to no avail - ideally love to be able to play it anytime i want - any experience/advice?
Thanks

On my JVC unit, I had the same issue. Searched the net and came up with this. Simlpy connect the wire that is suposed to go to the handbrake switch to ground (earth). Tried connecting it to power but it did not work. It now plays DVD's any time.

It would be better grounded to earth with a switch so when the guys in Blue come allong it can be turned off, illegal (in NSW anyway) to drive whilst playing the DVD, hence the handbrake control
It is not illegal to have a dvd player in the car - only if it can be seen by the driver when the car is in motion.
