    PLUGS

The pioneer stereo in the car has a plug which is 6x2 layout.

Would that be what's known as a ISO plug?

    Looks similar to this

    (except 6x2)
harness plug is kinda sorta similar to this....

Certainly the plug on my new pioneer system is totally different.

Same as is on mine, it's a Pioneer specific plug AFAIK.
I had a freelander loom in mine, from car to ISO.
Then I got an ISO - Pioneer plug, but the securing clips were on the wrong side!
Some cutting (of my finger) in the SCA carpark and it was in.
But I'm getting me one of these D1310s, They look like a great buy.

No, uni issues lead to a relocation of funds.
Dicing up between one of these and an iPad for navigation/music/video etc.
    We'll see.

I wish you had gone ahead. As I am keen to upgrade my stereo so it has a better iphone input. Using an FM transmitter sux's big time.
As for mapping. Ipad maps are expensive. Where as I have a heap of maps and I have already paid for license codes for Oziexlplorer and Ozi_CE.

Just been browsing for stereos over the last couple of days. Seems to be $300-400 will get me something. Just dont think I have found something with the right screen. Pretty sure I have seen them with better resolution that 800x480.

IMO thats perfectly acceptable resolotion for a 7" screen - not like its a computer monitor in front of you when you would notice the low res.

Your right I am sure it would be fine. As I was happy with the resolution of a cheap 7" GPS I brought 5yrs ago. And I doubt it was that high. I just thought I seen a higher one.

Actually 800x480 is very high resolution and would show a significant amount of detail. If you scale up that pixel density it's about 2650X1650 on a 24" monitor. Even people who do photo editing for a living would be jealous of resolution like that. Certainly much better than HDTV at only 1920x1080!

    Just my $0.02 worth.

    Cheers,
    Iain

Thanks for explaining it like that Iain.
Luckily I just did my tax. So should be cashed up in a fortnight.
