I have the Navman Mivue 358 which is full HD but no GPS. I have only had it for a week or so but happy so far. Video quality is good but sound a bit quiet. It records in 3-min or 5-min files so if you want a longer recording (e.g. for a trip) you have to join them up (but I think they are all like that).

Ok everyone- enough of the experimenting. I have been there and done that.
I have used a number of cameras in my vehicles for years- all have not been to my standards- or have failed in some way.

An associate of mine- owns a number of high end vehicles- he put me onto a company Autoptic. They have I must say an excellent range of high end cameras from Koreas best known makers. I have had mine for a while now- no problems- excellent recording- both audio and video- heaps of inbuilt features for those who want them.

I have tried and tested the Blackvue, a Dod Camera, a Vico Camera and itronic camera. Learnt the hard way- and wasted my money.

As mentioned- quality,price,reliabilty and functions is critical- but do your own research and decide what you want your camera to do.

Stay away from companies selling the cheap cameras- be warned.

Their site is under reconstruction at present (geez that irks me - how hard is it to leave the old site up while you build the new one ).

What brand is your current camera. It looks like Autoptic aren't a brand in themselves, but they stock high quality cameras from a variety of manufacturers.

I've ordered a DOD LS430... hopefully its a good choice.. It has GPS etc... just got it on ebay. The GPS and 60fps sounded good to me... Will let folks know what its like.

I see that the LS430 has a 5 MP sensor and a decent size battery too. I'm still undecided whether having a GPS is good or bad as having ones's speed recorded might or might not be desireable, not that I make a habit of speeding.

I'd get silver over black for that reason, plus battery life is better on the silver as its not working at capacity to record.

I have one of the bullet camera packages they sell, which I brought over from the UK. I used to use it on my motorbike and mountain bike. However it will serve me well on my Landy when out 4x4 driving and can be mounted in multiple places.

Someone backed into our Falcon with their towbar - the dent is clear - and it's occurred to me that a dashcam is probably about as much as our insurance excess, considering we'll probably need a new bullbar. (At least it died to save the front end, as they should.) I think it's time all of our cars had a camera on them.

I know someone here likes their Blackvue, and I see there's a Sony CF100 two-channel thing that looks great, and pretty much a million-billion other types. So what does someone like me, who hates electronics with a demented passion, buy that's simple and reliable?
