    External 4G antenna

For internet use in the caravan I mounted a 6db aeriel on the roof and connected it by adaptor to the 4G hotspot device.

How can I tell if the antenna is actually working? There is no icon on the device.
can i measure the incoming signal in some way?(please dont say, count the bars!)

there might be a hidden menu on the hotspot that can tell you the db (sometimes called ASU) of the incoming signal.

also, is your hotspot a MIMO deceive?

sorry Eevo, the previous pic vanished
    I have added another one.

    and I think so,,
the device has two antenna ports.
The connection to the device is pretty dodgy,, but straight from the Telstra shop....

I have the same device aircard 782S and a 6.5dB antenna on the bar. Does your plug go into one of the ports or both? Make sure its Port 1 if you only use one antenna.

As Eevo says, you can go into the menu and check the signal strength unplugged and plugged in. Affirm, MIMO.

There is a big increase in speed with mine in the sticks when the antenna is connected.

I have to use a 4G Advance device for my home internet. Same a pictured. I also have to have an aerial on my roof.

4G Advance device sits in a cradle which has a ethernet cable to connect main desktop computer & wifi for other laptop / I-pad. Also has incoming connection for aerial.

When my 4G Advance device is connected to aerial it has 5 ( full) bars & when disconnected only 1 bar. Thats how i know mine works. But not what you wanted to hear.

The 4G Advance has 2 ports to connect an aerial to, but only needs to be connected to one. Depends on what patch leads you have.

    found it,
no change when connected in either port.
and its 3bars on 3G atm,, so I'd expect to see some difference.
