We're working on this right now, I think we'll have it working in the next few weeks for AUS/NZ, we've been able to get TMC working in another country where JLR refused to pay the licensing fee for the local TMC service...

Here's the pics of an Aussie vehicle with the TMC activated, but as you can see no TMC information available, we know why, we know how to get it working, just a matter of finding some free time to work on it...

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this forum. I am just wondering if anyone has successfully retrofitted a sat nav that has signal input from the driving wheel?
I know it is not very important in most of Australia, but I really hate GPS systems that don't work in the city and tunnels.

The factory nav systems use vehicle speed, accelerometers and steering position sensors to track your position when there is no satellite reception.

Which vehicle do you have or want to put a nav in?

It looks like my previous comments about the factory nav install are not valid anymore, a couple of friends of mine have succeeded in retrofitting compete IAM2.1 Level 3 infotainment which includes navigation.

I just bought a 2013 D4 and have been thinking about retrofitting a number of options.

I went had a look around the car and I noticed that I have two spaces (cages, with brackets) under both driver and passenger seat. both have wiring and plugs.

Wondering what modules go in these spaces?

I have a 2008 D3 SE TDv6 and always wanted the hands free phone and navigation system but at the time it was a $5000 option IIRC.

Is it possible to retrofit these options? At least having a hands free phone would be fantastic (not sure if that was every a separate thing from navigation though).

Costly? Have to buy the original parts from LR?

Welcome to the forum Mark.

In a 2013 D4, the brackets under the front seats are for the Television module (drivers side), and for the external navigation module (for Asian and other markets, the systems that use an SD card or DVD player, not applicable to AUS)

What other things do you have in mind? The Surround Sound is a must-have from my perspective, if you're into your music.

Possible yes, but how easy depends on which audio system you have. If you have a "Midline" system which has a subwoofer, then adding a factory bluetooth phone is quite simple, more or less the same as what i did in my Freelander2.

If you have the Base audio system then it's quite a pain because the fiber optic network is missing. And upgrading from the Base to the Midline or Premium audio will be quite an expensive and complicated effort. There is an alternative which I know works in the Jags (like the XF) where they had the fiber optic network on Base level audio, but I haven't tried it on a D3 yet...

Regarding the factory navigation, again it depends on if you have the Midline audio or not. With the Midline you can retrofit the factory nav screen and DVD drive fairly easily (will also need to add the GPS reciever in the roof), and assuming you can find the parts out of wrecks at a reasonable price, it wouldn't be too costly. But it's quite a dated system now... although with the factory touchscreen, you can also get some nice features like the 4x4i info screen, off-road navigation and so on...

But yeah, 1st question is, which audio system do you currently have? You can PM me the VIN and i'll look it up if that helps...

Hi Cambo351, I am new to this forum (this is my first post), and in fact, am new to LR, having just bought a 2nd hand D4 MY16 HSE black pack.

I must say i am amazed at the tech-knowledge and sound advice on offer in AULRO from my reading so far, and being somewhat of a tech-geek myself, am particularly interested in this 'missing options' thread.

However, despite being a techie, i am not overly confident to take my car apart and put it back together again. I'm wondering if there are some 'simple' project to start with to gain confidence.

Following on from others, i would be particularly interested in:
- TMC (i see its being worked on)
- DAB+
- Premium sound upgrade. (I have a Meridian system - Vin decoder says 'L3')

- Surround cameras (I have reversing, but would love to have the others)
- 'adventure cam' (i think is what's its called), with a channel for an external / portable cam.
- Blind-spot assist

- TPMS
And maybe even
- Front Passenger seat memory (for the wife).

Now that i think about it, that's a pretty big list...
Where would you recommend I start?

Well to start out the "easiest" retrofits are the ones that have already been done multiple times before, like the DAB+, Surround Sound and the TPMS.

We already have some detailed instructions for the DAB+ and Surround Sound, also the list of parts needed has been established, and where you need custom-made cables (like for the DAB+ and the Surround Sound) I have already made up these cables for other people, so it's all a known thing, not really breaking new ground.

Yes the L3 is the 380W Meridian System, not the Surround, but it's easy enough to upgrade, I think I already posted some pics earlier in the thread of the items needed...

The TMC is a work in progress, will require a customised set of maps and a CCF change to enable it. We're very close now...

The Surround Cameras is a bit more complicated, and expensive to do. I have looked into this for a couple of people, here's what i came up with so far...

It's not too complicated, although there are a number of parts needed.

Basically the parts are;

2x front bumper cameras
2x mirror cameras, in the dedicated mirror housings
1x rear view camera (it's different to the standard reversing camera)
1x camera module
Wiring for connecting all these

The big ticket items are the mirror assemblies, i'd be trying to find them out of a wreck myself, you need to get mirror assemblies with cameras, that also match the other specs of your car (memory or non-memory being the main one)

The empty mirror housings are usually like $600 AUD each (ex-uk) and the cameras are available from China for USD $150 each, genuine cameras are around $475 AUS each ex-UK so that makes complete mirrors with everything in them off a wreck the cheaper way to go I think.

There are often camera modules on ebay for around $300 (a fraction of the new price) and the bumper cameras could be done with Evoque cameras for $150 AUD each or therabouts.

Looking into the wiring, i'd guess there's a few hundred dollars in the cables at least, coaxials that run from each camera back to the camera module, plus the other cables from the camera module to the touchscreen. None of the wiring will be present in the car from the factory so it'll all be custom in one way or another.

If you got lucky and found a set of mirrors with cameras, that also had the blind spot monitoring sensors, that would be the way to go.

The VentureCam system was kind of a predecessor to the integrated surround camera system, some older info here http://topix.landrover.jlrext.com/to...venturecam.pdf

Basically they are wireless cameras which you could position around the car using suction mounts, and have the images show on the touchscreen, this is kind of obsolete now with the integrated surround camera systems, but in principle it could also be retrofitted. You don't have to use the genuine Land Rover camera's, there are cheaper alternatives. One thing the VentureCam could be useful for, even with the Surround Camera system, is to mount a camera on the rear of your trailer, or if you're towing a horse float, put a camera inside to keep an eye on the beasts.

Was there a passenger seat memory option from the factory in the D4? I don't recall seeing this...

So where to start? I'd suggest DAB+, Surround Sound and TPMS, as I said they've been done before and there is no surprises in making it all work.
