Yeah it's so much better factory integrated in the touchscreen.
Can you PM me the VIN of your L322? I'll see if I can find out some more info.
Integrated sounds much better.

Alright I did some more digging.
The audio head unit of the L322 05-09 is unique, not shared with the L319/L320 or other JLR vehicles.
It has a "Ford" part number, so I don't think it's a hangover from the BMW days.
The amplifier from the Premium HK Logic7 in the L322 from that period is the same as the L319/L320.
The navigation DVD drive and CD changer is the same as the L319/L320, phone modules are also the same.
The SDARS/SIRIUS modules used in the L322 are the same as the L319/L320.
There are options in the CCF of a 2008 L322 for DAB, i.e. enabling DAB in the radio.
I think there's a pretty good chance it will work.
A simple test will prove it either way, connect a DAB module to the MOST network, give it power, and enable DAB in the CCF, if you get DAB on the touchscreen, then it's a go. If it doesn't work then no harm done, just put the CCF back how it was.
If you want to borrow a DAB+ module, power cable and MOST splitter to test it out, i'm happy to lend you one.
You have a means of editing the CCF?

I've all but given up on this idea I think - without the press-studs in the window antenna i'd be looking at an aftermarket solution, which then starts to raise questions around reception quality.
Still, the surround sound upgrade has now got my attention Cambo - do you know if this is compatible with the 2010 models? I have, apparently, the "Enhanced Navigation System" and "HI ICE Branded" units in stalled (from a TOPiX report). The speakers in the doors have Harmon Kardon badging. I also have the iPod cable in the glovebox, should that make a difference?
Is it a difficult install? It looks like you add 3 speakers, is that correct? And what does this all cost?
Thanks for your help with all this!

As it turns out, Land Rover used to have the press studs as a repair part which you could order, p/n was XUI500150
Item #3 in that picture. They are not available anymore...I tried to find some new-old-stock but seems like they were all scrapped or something...
So that means it comes back to an aftermarket antenna, unless you replace the side window (which I guess isn't really feasible).
I have an aftermarket antenna fitted in my XJR;
One of these ones AERPRO CT27UV62 DAB DAB+ GLASS MOUNT PATCH ANTENNA DIGITAL RADIO SMB CONNECTOR | eBay
The location isn't ideal because it's crossing the heating wires in the rear window. That wouldn't be a problem in the side window of a Disco.
The DAB install in the XJR is a bit cobbled together (long story) so it's not the best example of what you can expect from an aftermarket antenna in my opinion. I also added an additional amplifier to boost the signal, which helps a lot.
As the aftermarket antenna is also amplified on phantom power, I had to add another phantom power supply to run the booster, so the arrangement is powered antenna on the rear window -> phantom power adaptor -> DAB booster/amplifier -> DAB receiver. The booster is powered by phantom power on that comes from the DAB receiver. So basically two amplifiers in series now.
Made a BIG improvement to the reception! Different stations have different reception, but the two that I've been benchmarking;
WSFM, was generally good, occasional blips, now no blips
TripleM, was lots of blips, occasional loss of signal, now just occasional blips.
There are other options for vehicles where there's no separate DAB antenna on the window. For example in the later model Disco 4 and Freelander2, the FM antenna amplifier is replaced by a combined FM & DAB amplifier with an internal splitter. So the output is on two separate cables, one goes to the radio for FM, the other goes to the DAB receiver. This would also work on earlier cars.
And there are aftermarket amplifiers which do the same thing, I have one here to test out;
I'm waiting for a chance to pull the XKR apart, since it has fixed side windows i'll be able to mount different antennas on there to try out without issues from heating wires and so on, plus accessing the wiring/components for the DAB is much easier in that car than in a Land Rover or the XJR where you have to pull heaps of trim out to get to everything.
Surround Sound Retrofit on a 2010 D4 is definitely possible. HI-ICE is not the Logic7 Surround system. You don't have the speakers in the D-Pillars or in the center of the dash...
Basically it's just a matter of swapping the audio amplifier (under the drivers seat in a 2010) for the Logic7 Surround version, adding the speakers and d-pillar trims. If the wiring for the surround speakers is missing like it has been in the 2012-onward D4's, well it's not too hard to make up a retrofit harness.
Get me a picture of the connectors on the amp under the seat, so the wires from each connector are visible, can count them / see what's missing.
A few years back I helped do a Surround retrofit on a Disco 3, and it was pre-wired for Surround, so we assumed that all the cars were pre-wired, like the Jags and the FL2 and Evoque are. But as we found out, the 2012-onward D4's weren't. Could be that the 2010 D4 is, it's not too hard to check.
Also pop off the center speaker grille in the dash and see if the loom is there to plug into the speaker, i'm 99% sure it will be.
As for the cost, well it depends on how lucky you get finding a Logic7 amplifier. There's one on ebay.uk right now for £140
The d-pillars with speakers are about $200 each new, the center speaker for the dash about $100, ex-UK.
If a retrofit harness is needed, the ones I make for the later models I sell for $220 (there's $110 in parts to make the loom, plus it takes a few hours to put it together).
And then you need to edit the CCF to make it all work.

Holy moly - thanks for the super detailed reply! I'll have to start looking around for that amp - I have a workshop manual, though it doesn't list any part numbers in the audio section. Do you know if it is 8H42-19C164-BB?
One interesting note - there are also apparently mid-range speakers in the front doors in a logic 7 equipped vehicle?
I did find a disconnected plug in the rear right compartment (where the jack lives), but couldn't think what it might have been for. Looked too thin for speaker cables though, so i'l assuming it is some kind of signal line for rear audio controls or similar.

Ah hang on a minute....
There are different door harnesses for the Base/Midline/Hi-Ice cars vs. the Premium Surround cars in the 2010/2011 D4.
The way the extra speaker in the front door is handled is not the same as later models.
Let me do some more digging...
EDIT
Ok something weird here, the "Enhanced Navigation" you mention is only shown for the Surround system.
Yeah I need to do some more digging...

Sent you a PM mate.
Well it gets even worse the more I look into it.
Well whoever it was at Land Rover responsible for the infotainment system in the early D4's needs whipping... far out they made a real mess of it... 66 different versions of the infotainment cabin wiring harness depending on the vehicle specification. Who signed off on that ?!?!?!
2010MY (VIN AA000001 to AA999999) also has different wiring harnesses to 2011MY (BA000001 to BA999999) even though the hardware was the same.
But, as far as I can tell, the cabin harnesses for the HI-ICE (HK) and Premium Sound (HK Logic7) are the same in regards to the speaker wiring. There is no different cabin harness listed specifically for a HI-ICE or Premium Sound, they are for both in all variations. In theory this means you should be able to find the unused looms/connectors for the rear surround speakers, probably taped or clipped up at the location of the d-pillars. Would need to remove the d-pillars and check for them.
The wiring diagrams are also a mess in that they do not differentiate between the HK or HK Logic7 systems, they only show the complete Logic7 arrangement.
The front door harness are differentiated between Base, Midline & HI-ICE as one version, and a different version for Premium Sound. This makes no sense to me when compared to the wiring diagrams which show different...
It's hard to believe that JLR could have got it so right with some models, and made a total mess of others.
Really need to get access to a 2010/2011 D4 and check the wiring on the car itself, the Microcat and Wiring Diagrams don't make sense.
EDIT
If your D4 with the HK branded system has the headphone sockets/panels/controls in the rear doors, then it should be straight forward to upgrade to the surround sound. i think...
