And speaking of **** - our Investment property unit has no access to NBN - but the unit next door has FTTP as does the rest of the suburb. Ours and unit 1 show as not available, so no ISP will talk to us even though the box with the fibre in it is screwed to the wall outside Unit 2 and being used by the occupants there. I've contacted the NBN and they say the connection to units 1 and 3 will be available in 2020. When I tell them it's already connected to Unit 2 they say 'Yes, that's right - but your unit and unit one aren't scheduled yet.' I doubt anyone is coming back - the suburb was connected to NBN early on when it was all FTTP so I'm pretty sure the installers are long gone and would consider the area complete...

I've told my Tenant to get friendly with the people in Unit 2 and see if they can borrow their Wireless password.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

We had FTTN NBN go live 27th Sep. I had pre ordered with ABB and it took two weeks for a NBN tech to connect us so we've had it now for three weeks.

When first connected our speed was 33.96/13.29 Mbps, more than 10 times better than we had with ADSL but certainly not great.

I booked a licensed cabler to come and wire directly from the lead in to the modem (this is an imperative for anyone on FTTN that is more than 300 metres from the node to maximise speed an minimise dropouts). This took us to 70.16/24.74 Mbps.

We had a hiccough a week ago where the connection was going down every couple of minutes. We were put on stability profile (this slows your speed down but makes the connection more stable - funny that) for 24 hours at which point NBN had sorted it out. We are now syncing at 66.84/23.91 Mbps still nearly 24 times better than our ADSL Service and light years ahead in stability.

I am about 510 metres from the node and was hoping for 70+ Mbps.... was expecting to get close to 100Mbps until NBN decided to add in an extra 260 metres of copper by situating the node further away at the next pillar.

I am reasonably happy with what we have, I could probably extricate another 2-4Mbps out of it by getting a modem with the broadcom chipset though, it's not really a concern at this point. Only problem is we are stuck with this tech for the next 20 years with no upgrade path short of paying for technology choice and the associated potential impact on house pricing that carries - that's a 'later' problem.

For now, happy family. No more arguments over who is hogging bandwidth.
    Cheers,

    Sean

I finally changed over from ADSL to NBN. The modem I have was a Telstra Gateway so is compatible with the NBN. My electronic technical knowledge is woeful so I had a computer tech come and sort out the landline, PC etc. All works okay but am not happy with the landline now having to be hooked up to the modem to work. When we go out for the day standard practice is to turn the PC and modem off at the wall. This now means that the phone doesn't work so incoming calls do not register.

I haven't detected any improvement in speed etc. I know from the Speed Test that I have gone from 5 to 26 but it is not noticeable. There are only two nodes serving the whole town.

I did tell Telstra when they called that they fib. That they do a deal to get you on board but then do not honour it. All previous promises of no charge ancillaries are now supposed to be back on the free list. We'll see........

They are sending me a new upgraded modem which supposedly has a sim card in it so that if the NBN goes out I will still have access to the internet. Supplying it free as apparently I am on some special customer list. No idea what this means......

I suppose you are one of those who also only turn on their mobile phones on at 4.00pm in the afternoon to save the battery.

    Nup.....I don't own a mobile phone.

Due to previous bad experience the unused electronics are turned off as a fire risk reduction measure.

    What speed are you paying for - 25, 50, 75 or 100?

You will essentially have one with your new modem.
