Yeah US has them now, but they only got 3G about 3-4 months ago. 3G is the 2nd generation iPhone.

Regarding the maps and cost, you can download a application which downlaods the google map. Its free, so what you do, when you are at home, download all the maps through wifi and then its compeltely free.

    Easy!

    iPhone 3G audio connectivity module

Thinging of upgrading my 2001 Disco II to a new Disco 3 and looking at options on the vehicle. Does any reader know if the optional audio connectivity module is compatible with the iPhone 3G? I know a number of accessories are not supported by the 3G due to a change in the charging set-up and wonder if this is true with the new connectivity module. Cheers

    Dorko,
Can you be more specific on the google app that allows you to download the maps and use them offline? I have an iPhone and would love to be able to use the mapping in this manner.

As far as I know the only thing that the D3 phone kit needs is a bluetooth connection. It will not charge the phone.

Whether its 3G is irrelevant to the car connectivity as the 3G/2G etc is merly a data transmission protocol to send data / voice over the air to the phone network.

I doubt very much if LR will have made a lead to plug the iphone into the car. Indeed I dont know if its possible at all on D3.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks Yorkshire_Jon. I'm more interested in the compatibilty with the dock connector in the audio connectivity module to control my iPhone as a media player (& hopefully charge it). I'm not worried about the bluetooth connectivity for the phone function as I find the iPhone's speaker-phone is excellent. Does anyone use their iPhone 3G via the optional audio connectivity kit (part No. LR006792) for iPod and charging?

    Cheers

I forgot to mention I do have 1 criticism of the LR Audio Connectivity Module. Each time you press the next or previous song buttons on your steering wheel it opens the iPod application on the iPhone.

This is a minor annoyance because it means you have to go back to Google Maps if you're using it for Navigation. It seems to be a LR thing however because usually the skip buttons in other car kits etc don't load the iPod app. Something in the LR app is telling the iPhone to open the iPod app and change the song.

Aside from that its awesome! Songs play, I can see the artwork just to the left of the speedo, when I get a call it auto-pauses the song and transfers the call to the Blue-tooth car kit.
