A guess but perhaps between $100 to $200. But not familiar with this radio so perhaps a little more.

Depends - that covers much more than the amateur band, but I think it's channelised (i.e You need to pre-program frequencies into it's channels, and can't just tune up and down like you would a scanner or amateur set) which might limit it's attractiveness to amateurs. Plus most amateur sets these days are VHF/UHF, and hence VHF or UHF-only sets tend to be worth less.

However, if it covers marine and/or aircrafts bands (Don't know what they are without looking them up), and someone had a genuine use for a radio that worked for all of them, it might be worth a bit more to the right buyer.

I'd keep a look on eBay for a few days as VHF sets come up quite often, but prices seem to vary.

Bit too high for Aircraft band and not AM

I personally prefer Channels for mobile usage because you can programme all the repeaters and most of the common simplex freqs.

Commercial equipment tends to be better quality than most Ham gear too.

Not so familiar with Vertex although I think it is related to the Yaesu brand which is popular amongst amateurs. (although like Cooper tyres - you love them or hate them!)

I am surprised though at the amount of amateur stuff coming from China - very cheap - although of dubious quality. Like jik22 has said most prefer the dual band stuff.

Stick it on ebay and it will find it's own value!

I do that too, but also like to leave it scanning the bands when out of town or away from repeaters to see what else is going on. You can't usually do that with a channelised commercial radio.

    Back to the original question

The most obvious use as has been mentioned many times in this forum is with an amateur licence.

The Foundation licence gives you access to the VHF amateur bands which includes all the voice repeaters.
The licence can be obtained in a weekend and is VERY easy to get.

A repeater list is at the bottom of this page:
    WIA Repeaters
And the site gives plenty of information about the Foundation licence.
