    PC faulty, need help

    Hello,
I hope that there is one or two IT gurus who can help me on this.
I have an Intel Core II based PC runin on XP.
Today morning when I started it the PC made 3 bips and do not boot.
    What can be? hardware fault?
I do not believe that can be the C drive because the PC runs on RAID so if one HDD fallied the other take over (I hope)
    Your inputs are appreciated

    Cheers Arthur

The number of beeps tells you which component has failed. Unfortunately it varies with each different BIOS.
I'd open up the case, pull all the cables and cards out. Then put the ram back in and video card, try to boot. If you've got a can of 'Contact Cleaner' even better.
    Cheers

Make sure the keyboard, monitor, etc. are plugged in. Some bios used to be set to halt on keyboard error, don't know if it is still an option.

    Sounds very "hardware fault"!

Do you get any POST / BOOT screen messages coming up on the screen, or does the screen not even come out of power saving mode when the PC is booting (beeping).

If you are getting zero screen response, might just be your video card, andn they are very cheap to replace.

Edit: POST = Power On Self Test messages....

    Here's a link that'll help you out

    Computer POST and beep codes

You need to know the type of beeps though ... 3 short, 1 long and 2 short, 1 short and 2 long or 3 long beeps

    Thumbs up

Thank you all for the inputs.

The screen was black so there was no way to get into the BIOS.
As sugessted by Danny, I removed the Ram sticks, cleaned the contacts with a pencil rubber and all is OK now.

The humidity and salty enviroment here 200 m from the beach it is not the best for a PC with very efficient cooling system.
Two weeks ago the graphic card kaput

I just wonder if a laptop with good graphic capabilities and external monitor to use with Photoshop will not be a better option here.

    Cheers

Glad to hear it's ok. Most times the beeps you described mean either RAM or Video. And yes, it's usually dirty contacts and not a faulty card.
    Good Luck, Arthur.

Panasonic Toughbooks seem to be the type of thing that would be good for you. Plenty on ebay...
