I don't see anything dishonourable about doing this. It would be a legitimate test of the product to see if it fits a purpose, with the intention of buying it if it does.

Doing it just because you only ever want one for a few days would be different.

I imagine they would only accept it back if it's in perfect condition anyway, so probably no loss on Apple's behalf.

The clear implication here was to buy one and then bull**** (ie Lie) an excuse for returning it. Having one for only a few days was exactly what he was suggesting, and the retailer, (not necessarily Apple) would be under no obligation to return it.

Most retailers would then have to advertise said Ipad as used and sell it at a discount no matter the condition because it will obviously have already been opened.

Otherwise I can only assume he would have suggested asking the reatiler to help with a solution first
I reckon that most would help just from sheer curiosity.

You're interpretation was different to mine - I saw no implication to lie to anybody.

Apple's return policy is designed exactly for the reason mentioned - if it doesn't suit your needs, you can return it, provided it is undamaged. It's probably their marketing strategy, as this probably tempts people into giving it a shot, then most would end up keeping it.

Nobody mentioned any plan to rip them off - only to try the product under accordance with their policy.
