    Problem with XP

Does XP service pack 2 contain all of service pack 1? I have just reinstalled XP with SP2 and I cannot install mt modem. It says it cannot find modem. Yet I am using it now via a second hard drive ok. What could be happening? Jim

I am not an expert but in order to install SP3, you must first have Windows XP Service Pack 1a (SP1a) or Service Pack 2 (SP2) installed. These are also available when you have Automatic Updates turned on.
So I guess that to install SP2 you need to instal SP1a first.

SP2 should be fine if you've installed from a disk thats "WinXP with SP2".

Does your modem show up in the device manager? Possibly with a yellow icon beside it showing that the driver isn't installed properly.
It could be that you've installed a driver for it from a separate disk in the past - which is how it could be working from the other hard drive.
