Thread: Booting up in fail safe mode

Starting in safe mode means the PC loads the bare minimum of drivers, allowing a technician to work on a compromised system. Stuff that hasn't loaded can be easily deleted, and if it isn't loaded it can't play up.

When a computer is shut down from safe mode it should reboot normally next time. If the computer does not shut down propperly you might see a boot menu, offering to start normally or in safe mode.

Shut the PC down and restart it. It should boot normally. If it doesn't, select safe mode and then go through the ususal shutdown process. After that it should work normally. If not, call the tech back or restore the system using your backups.

on the desk top hit the start button, bottom left corner
in the search bar,just above start button, type msconfig and hit enter
this should open a window
click on second tab from the left, BOOT
uncheck the box that says safe boot
apply and exit
restart

OK Now I have an even bigger problem. The computer won't boot at all. Gets to the "starting windows" window and stops there. w7 by the way. I can access setup but can that help? Jim

Did you do the msconfig thing and now it wont boot ?
if so it could be a driver error.
Unplug as many things as you can and try again.
to get into safe mode, restart and keep taping F8 to take you to a boot menu.
Safe mode is what your after. This will put you back to where you were previously.

If you get back into safemode try this to scan and fix errors on C drive.

on the desk top hit the start button, bottom left corner
in the search bar,just above start button, type cmd and hit enter
in the new window type chkdsk /f /r C: and hit enter
hit y for yes
and restart the machine

this could take while 1-2 hrs

If that doesn't work this is the next step
Try to find problem and fix windows

in the new window type sfc /scannow and hit enter

this will give you a progress % and should give a report when finished

I can't do anything now. It won't boot up past opening windows screen. Jim
