What operating is on your lap top?
What operating system is on your other PC?
If they both using XP is it XP 'home' or XP 'pro'?

Have you run the "Windows Zero Configuration Utility"

Your firewall on either pc may be blocking tcp/ip traffic, turn off all firewalls until you get the 2 pc to communicate. Just remember to turn it back on when you get it sorted. Also some virus scanner may block net work traffic also, so disable it also until you get going.

You might get some more ideas from here

Mick, give me a ring on 02 4735-6883.

I'm running a D-Link router on Optusnet broadband cable.

Maybe if we compare my router settings with yours.......

Yeah, try tomorrow if you like. I'm off duty tomorrow as I have a medical appointment. If you can't get me at home, then I'm not there. My mobile is 0408 483 269

I go to bed late soi if you want to try later after your HB has gone to bed, that's fine. Ring the mobile first to see if I'm still awake. If I've gone to bed, the mobile will be in the kitchen so I won't hear it (with my earplugs in) so there is no need to worry about waking me.

    Dave Blears - legend

Well i fingures out ( or at least dave did) what my problem was. It seems that the function key and F1 turn the wireless antenna on......

( that would be why there is a little blue tv antenna thingy on the key!)

    he he

anyhow - I needed to do the full win xp reload etc......for practice

let alone the absoulte shed load of windows upgrades...

    thanks eveyone
    mick
