They were ascentive and PCtools. So I was too chicken to download them.

    Hi
I don’t want this to sound like a criticism as it’s a great site but it is slow.
I used to work web admin a few, (well a lot of) years ago pretty sure it’s the back end not the internet service but I know how hard it is to nail down issues.

At work they pay a LOT of money for a 10Mb/10Mb uncontested line, its slow there as well as home. Work is Telstra home is AAPT.
As Inc has said though he has a replacement server coming I’m sure it’ll speed things up.

    Good luck with it Inc.
Out of curiosity whats the spec on your new beastie?

I have the same problem. I'm running a Gigabyte S series m/board with twin AMD 3800 dual core processors and my graphics card is a Nvidia GeForce 7600 with 512 mb ram....damn thing flys.....except on AULRO, I have found that I have to refresh the page sometimes to get it to load, and it depends whether there are a heap of users logged on. Some times I even have enough time to wander into the kitchen, make a cup of coffee, wander back and sit down for a few minutes before the page loads.

The problem is in the server...and I know Inc is doing everything he can to rectify it......so please be patient

I can't remember any time when I found AULRO slow to load.

It typically takes 2 to 3 seconds to load a page that I have not seen before. Only about half of that time seems to be taken up with downloading the page. The other half is needed to display the page. It is only a P4 1.7GHz with 512 RAM and a very ordinary video card.
A page with a lot of big pics takes a bit longer.

I have 512 download speed, but even when I was on dialup AULRO loaded quite quickly.

I am with southernphone, one of the regional providers. I don't know which ISP they use.

I don't think I have ever had to refresh a page to get it to load. I'm sure I have never had a page take anything like a minute to load.

I hope I haven't just jinxed myself by saying how well the site performs for me.

Intermittent problem with mine, it is usually when there are a lot logged on, ie sunday evening took ages to bring up a page, and two goes to get pm's to go through,
for that reason i do most of my lurking in the morning when all is quiet and fast,

Its a lot faster this morning 8.54 AM 2/12/2008.
Although on about the fifth page I opened it stalled at 80%.
I have looked at and changed my firewall settings, which are windows disabled and Trend enabled at medium.
    But no difference.
So I tend to agree it is an issue with AULRO or my ISP. I also stalled on my local tennis club site so maybe an Optus issue.
I must say until about 2 weeks ago exploroz was also very slow but now seems much better, and that was with my old ISP Bigpond vs Optusnet, so it had a problem also.
Maybe it is the attacks on the site.
Unfortunately not for Vista , or they state up to XP on their site.

I think its a time of day, and hence network load issue. For me it tends to be quite slow between say 6pm and 11pm but is fine at 2-3-4am and is working quick at the moment 9am.

    Now I'm off to work

I wonder if the browser has anything to do with it?

I use Firefox, and notice that it's slow at peak times, and rarely a stalled page that needs reloading, but never having to wait minutes for pages to load as some have reported.

    Cheers
