i'm not sure what beta version of 7 it was, however my brother, after converting all 4 of his PC's to win 7, discovered that the operating system was powering down the system after 45min running time. He discovered that this 'feature' was built into the beta version and it kicked in after a few months use.

People who are saying its very slow to load are either running a dinosaw or comparing it to something half the size. It boots alot quicker than vista does and is generally a bit zippyer for most programs.

Networking specifcaly file sharing I did find a little tricky this was because 7 wanted to use some homegroup thing which looks pretty good but is only compatable with other 7 machines. Turning that off and it worked ok.

Also 7 has quite a few usefull features and works well without any drivers.
No , I don't run a dinosaur, and yes ubuntu is less than half its size, and yet does all I need it to do. Does Win7 need to be several Gb in size? Saying it boots a lot quicker than Vista isn't really a ringing endorsement is it.

    Yesss.....homegroup. What a winner!

fact is, Win7 is here to fix the dog Vista is.

    cheers

If you have an older PC that's hasn't got enough grunt for Win7, you can play around with something called OSX86, which tricks your PC into thinking it's a Mac, and then you can load OSX.

I saw it on a PC where I was working one day and it was very impressive. Sounds like you have to get involved in Torrents etc, but might extend the life of some older hardware.

Was odd to see Mac stuff running on a PC though!
