Battery light coming on when fording...

    Gudday

My 200tdi Disco battery light flicks on for a few seconds while fording creeks, or today it came on while hitting a big puddle during a downpour. Is it just water hitting the alternator? And is this a problem?

I put new batteries in the other day, but this problem's been occurring on the odd occasion I have had to ford a creek for ages.

    Ta

It's usually caused by belt slippage when it gets wet, rather than an actual alternator problem.

    Mine does the same thing.
Has done it for years and usually stops as soon as I exit the water. Never been a problem and I must admit I hav'nt gone looking to hard as it is still going, so I am prepared to leave well enough alone.

sometimes the saying if it aint broke dont fix it ought to be listened to. This is perhaps one of those times.

The two things I would look at if I were to play with it is replacing the belt if it is old and perhaps the tensioner pulley if it is weak.

    What he said!!
Mine has always done it. I have swapped the old Magneti Marelli Altenator for a Bosch and nothing changed. Don't worry about it.
