Okay I've got the rubber grommets in (new ones, the old ones were perished totally) but now I can't get the reservoir to go in the seals...I'm thinking the rear grommet isn't quite in properly, the one that needs the little hose to go inside it. That thing is really tricky!!! How the heck do you get one of those in properly???
Well I actually had a bit of success...put the seals in last night the best I could, got the reservoir on just about flush with the seals and filled it up with fluid to see if it would leak this morning.
This morning...NO LEAKS! Replaced the plugs and leads too and took it for a drive this morning. Brakes still work well and no leaks, engine also feels a little stronger on gas but not much difference there yet.
Main thing is the brakes work and it's not leaking anymoreI took some pics of the in between process which I'll put up when I get a chance but for now I've gotta rush off.

Well I've been driving it since doing that and it's fine. Brakes work and no more leaks! Not sure if I cleaned the brake fluid properly though...I gave it a good spray with the hose but maybe I should scrub the bits a bit with some soapy water and then spray it off...?
The base of the reservoir still isn't sitting flush so when it goes in for a service I might get the guys to just take it out and have a crack at putting it in again because it doesn't look quite right, even though it's definitely not coming out in a hurry it's in there pretty good.
I actually called the guys at Power Brakes in SA and got them to mail me another couple of grommets just in case I give it another go and brake any of themCan't hurt to have spares, although now that there are new ones in they'll probably last another ten years!!! There is a special brake assembly lube that Power Brakes supply, I clean forgot about it. Maybe that would have helped but I wouldn't fret about the reservoir so long as it's not about to fall off.![]()
Just going through the same problems with my 2 tonne boat anchor, sorry Discovery - 'cos I've got a warranty on mine, it has to go to a workshop.
They said the master cylinder was stuffed and have been waiting on a (sensibly priced) replacement for a week - the first one they got shipped had been dropped and was damaged.
I guess the seals will automatically be done when they replace the master cylinder...
What amazed me was the speed with which it dropped a whole cylinder of brake fluid - ok one day and all gone the next (seriously - I checked the fluid on Friday and on Saturday morning it was all gone) - I'm just glad it didn't happen at 110km/h on the freeway!
The wheel rubbing thing - glad mine isn't the only one that does it - on mine the front tyres rub on the suspension arm at full lock. Scary the first time it happened, now it simply turns heads in car parks.

The full lock scraping could just be a matter of screwing out the steering stop bolts on the swivel housing. When I fitted my cooper Sts they had a wider tread and scraped on full lock. 5 mins under the front with a spanner and adjusted the stop bold did the trick. The stop bolt limits the full lock distance.
