    Check that you also have a good earth from the engine block-chassis. It may be poor or broken & electrical load is using the stick as a return path.

    It seems that everyone skipped your original problem, first thing you need to do is check your autobox fluid, it should be a light cherry red colour, anything less than that it needs changing, sooner rather than later, old fluid and heat are a killer for an autobox.

    Yes the big tyres will make the box work harder as you have effectively raised the gearing causing it to slip more when you pull away, accelerate etc, if it continues to get hot after a fluid change consider an auxillary cooler for the gearbox.
    A proper gearbox service may be in order too.
