    Suspension for a Disco1

Hi guys and galls, just purchased a Disco from the Gold Coast 97 Tdi very happy with the vehicle (one owner) but have found the suspension is original 216000k I drove it 1300k home to Bowen Qld and found the suspension skips when the road gets rough, pot hole or rail way tracks.
So what I am asking is for your experience with suspension kits, "shocks and COIL spring packages 2" lift , so far i have seen prices from $800 to $1200+, or do I go spacers plus shocks? Reply here or personal message.
    Regards Brett

I've got Kings Springs and Bilstein shocks all round on my V8. The springs I bought locally from Sprint Auto Parts, and the Bilsteins I imported from eShocks in the States (Don's Sports Vehicles) at a lot lower price than I was being quoted for them here.

I did with my previous Gabrielle shockers which after 8 years work were stuffed (rear ones). The Bilsteins cured it. The springs stiffen things up and you get a firmer ride, which may not be to everyone's taste, but I much prefer it. For a big 4x4 it handles ok. It's on 8 inch wide rims with 255x65R16 Toyos.

Go the new springs and shocks for sure.
I recently got a 98 300tdi disco and all corners had sagged. I got new shocks and springs from Ultimate Suspension in Ingleburn NSW along with a new steering damper installed for $1400 but they sell the kits for around $900. Couldn't be happier with the result, the guys really know their stuff and had a fair bit to do with land rovers just got to tell them what weight is on the rig. They research and make all their own shocks and their springs are apparantly made by lovell to their specs.

    well worth it for sure

I've just ordered a 2" lift from suspension stuff which will be delivered to the door for $830. I've gone the flexi rear coils so will be getting some extended brake hoses too. If your not going to be purchasing a kit in the next few days I can offer feedback on the shocks and springs though I'm sure someone who has already fitted them will be able to offer some feedback.

Before you go and get new suspension - which you need, you need to work out what you want.

You need to consider what you are going to do with your rig. Are you going to be towing? this is the type of lift kit I put in mine, rather firm unloaded but brilliant when that back is full and you are towing a boat / horse float / caravan.

do you want max articulation for going out and playing?

do you want a soft ride or a firm ride? do you want to be able to adjust your ride.

you really need to think though what you intend to do the most of and get a suspension kit that suits your needs also talk to several different companies. The more companies you talk to (and here) the better understanding you can come to of what you want.

An important thing to remember is that the cheapest is not necessarily the best nor is the most expensive.

I'm also looking at getting the kit from Suspension Stuff, so will be grateful of any feedback you can give.
