OK, looks like I might be staying with the standard 235/70/16s.
No and I mangled the rear quarter panels because of it. Not only that but so that the tyres dont hit the chassis on full turn you have to reduce the turning circle via the stop bolts, it now has the turning cirle of the titanic, hence the need for -25mm off set rims.
Also the tyres scrub on many angles and steering positions, as I said in my first post above once my tyres are at the point of throw away i am going back to a smaller set untill I can do the job properly which will include stronger axles and lower crown wheel and pinion. I know this doesn't need to be done but to make it as good as standard, all I stated above in my opinion needs to be done.

Seriously Mick dont let me put you off, a flare kit and off set rims with 33's are probably ok in most situations - i should let you know I put my rig to it's limits regularly so I am aware of just what they are. I am just trying to let you know that in full drop or compression without the other bits you probably will hit panels.

It's OK, I'm running four tyres less than six months old so it will take me a while to wear them down. Meanwhile, there are other priorities.
a member of our 4wd club runs 255/85/16 BF's on -1" offset rims for his D1 and has only a 1" body lift , says he hardly ever gets any rubbing of tyres on the guards inner on full flex , so as suggested you may just get away with 1" spacers for body lift if you planning on running 285/75/16's on offset rims.
If you do a search here a member (Boxer) used to have a D1 with 2" spring lift, cut guards with Flares, and 33x12.5x15 (I think) and was OK.
