    I've been jinxed- tdi alternator.

Young guy at work was after a replacement bolt for his battery clamp on his Astra turbo, i had 3 in the toolbox so gave one to him yesterday.
This start the disco and tacho is not responding at all and battery telltale light is on, no problems starting so should i be looking at a fuse or bad earth/wiring connection ?

Check the back of the alternator for loose connections, Also if you have one check output from the alternator with a multi meter.

Be careful, remember ( I will stand corrected) once its started your engine needs minimal power to run and will happily run on battery power only( guessing diesel). My Alternator was stuffed and only sign was the tachometer stopped working, no tell tail eventualy the battery will go flat. Worth checking before you end up stuck somewhere. My alternator cost $300 for a 100amp

Yep tdi, i am aware that it will run without much battery power but lights should be affected or at least go dim and then bright. Do you happen to know the weight of a tdi alt ?

Either its not charging or over charging, need to stick a multmeter on it and check charge voltage
