Grover98 has a disco 1 300tdi and it sounds awesome all he done was remove the middle muffler (resinator) and it gives it a sweet note only downside is a little bit of a drone at about 90km/h but it isnt that bad really and if you dont like it take the piece back out and put the reisnator back in (bolt in bolt out) even has a whistle at idle makes them sound way better than stock and not too loud to draw attention! some say it even improves performance but i didnt really see much increase at all

note: those with 200tdi's they dont sound quiet as good as the 300tdi with this mod done though

So is the rear muffler a straight through silenced? I put t
the straight through in the middle but kept it silenced. Do I should have put a straight through and that's it! I was hoping to remove the rear and see how it sounds but don't know?

Yep i agree with you there, i lopped the centre muffler off my 200tdi and it barely made a difference, i will probaby cut the small one of tomorrow then see how it sounds
I'm still yet to here a tdi that sounds any good though

    A 4bd1t sounds awesome

Mine is factory pipe, straight through from the turbo. Think its 2.25".

I only did it trying to chase power and economy, but I don't think it really made much difference to either. In my petrol prado changing exhaust to sports system made a huge difference, was hoping it would do the same for my diesel.

Some say the turbo spins up a bit earlier and you can hear it out exhaust when you back off, sounds ok. I get usable boost from very low rpm, 1100 and up, so I am pretty happy.

It is pretty loud, like a big fart some might say, but I don't mind, I quite like it haha For long freeway stints it doesn't bother me at all either, rpm is pretty low at 100kmh.

One of the best sounding diesels i have heard is a mates Hilux with aftermarket turbo and straight through, have a listen at the 1minute mark after going through the bog hole, turbo sounds sweet as.

I wouldn't go a 3" system on a 300tdi, a little 2.5ltr 4cyl diesel. All that would do is make even more noise than mine. I would go max 2.5" mandrel bent if I was going to replace my whole system, but would only do that if I was ever going to change turbo.

All i did for mine was cut replace the center muffler with a straight through pipe, and did the same for the rear muffler as well. It is just a complete straight through system with no silencers anywhere... and it only has a slight drone at 100kmph... but really not bad at all! It has passed two regos with ease since, also the police have never questioned it. So its certainly something i would suggest if you are after a better note compared to the standard fart in a can note from factory.

Sounds alright James. So if lob off the rear while I've got a straight through muffler (silenced) would that do anything? Are the rear mufflers silenced?

Well I lobed off the rear muffler and she sounds sweet!! No gurgling just a nice low hum and it's not droning at all. Very happy with the outcome.

there is a 300tdi/defender vid on youtube with a straight through 2.5" sounds sweet, I love the turbo spool sound!!

all this talk of exhaust work is making me think of beinging forward my 2.5" project.
hadn't planned to put any muffs there, can always add one in later if need be

++ the flowing exchaust is good for EGT readings so I have heard. yet to get some definate numbers on that one though - will do when I get mine done!

at the moment the ABSOLUTE MAX is around the 670degree mark.
be interesting to see if there are any changes.

My 300Tdi D1 still has the Land Rover stamped front muffler but no resonator at the rear.

It also has a nice low hum but is not loud at all and has no drone at any speed.
