Well that's all I was after Alton as well. Had a look at the muffler (rear) and it is a straight through but clearly you can see it has a silencer in it.

at the moment the ABSOLUTE MAX is around the 670degree mark.
be interesting to see if there are any changes.

I get around the 540 mark on my egt gauge on long up hill runs so see how it goes in the next couple of days when I head out. I think the defers have a different setup to the discos please anyone correct me if I'm wrong.

    yeah, normally below 600.
I have a very long steep run I do every day. (about 250m over 5km?)
usually EGTs are less than 650, but the recorded maximum tells me it once got higher

I tapped the sender into the manifold blanking plate between the exhaust ports and turbo. the distance from the ports makes a huge difference, but I imagine everyone with a 300tdi has used that same location

good to see your happy with your exhaust now discovery300tdi
tdi's dont sound as good as other diesels but can be made to sound better than stock 4bd1T would be good if it sounded like this one

but can never make our 4 cylinders sound as good as a big 6,8 or 12 such as this

Thanks chaps!! I just wasnt sure what the end result would be if i cut the rear muffler, actually thought as i have the middle muffler silenced that i wouldnt get anything more unless i changed it but in the end it was just what i was after. now just to put a straight pipe on the end to make it look a little nater and bob's your uncle and fanny's your Aunt!! lol thanks all for the inputs!

The 3" system I fabbed years ago dropped EGT's by at least 20-25*C on my test hill.
ie. my peak EGT's (bog stock pump settings) dropped from 623* (6mm probe) to just under 600*

This was consistent @ same ambient.

With the standard 2,3/8"exhaust system 3rd gear peaked @ 80km/h. ie. it wouldn't rev past that, no matter what.
With the 3" system it kept accelerating past 100km/h in 3rd, so it removed a massive restriction there.

I think a mandrel bent 2.5" system on a Disco (less overall length, therefore less pressure drop than a 130 system) would be adequate, or 2.75" if you can find it.
At the time 2.75" aluminised exhaust tube was stupidly priced, so I bought 6m of 3" tube plus a bag of mandrel bends and started cutting and welding.

wow from 80km/h in 3rd to 100km/h is a huge jump

any photos of your system that you made up rick130? i am considering making a 3" system for the isuzu but just cant warrant the $800 for a mandrel bent system when i have access to most tools needed to make up a system just as good

off topic (sorry discovery300tdi) but while we are talking about exhaust systems i have noticed what has been talked about before and that is on my isuzu county the exhaust goes throught the passenger side guard and where it bends my 235/85r16's come pretty close to touching and going to 33" and a 3" system we all know wat will happen so i remember seeing one of the isuzu boys on here moding it to fit under the passengers floor but cannot seem to remember who that was!!! any other ideas for exhausts on the isuzu's guys???

psrobably should be on the isuzu section but we are one about exhausts

Thats OK, I'll have to fab a new one when I eventually fit a 4BD1T to the 130

I flared a piece of 2.5" tube up to 3" and relieved the cast dump section to match the ID of the 2.5" tube.

thanks rick these are great pictures !! so did you do those welds??? how much did everything cost roughly? so your thinking of going to a 4bd1T in the 130.... going to do the same with the exhaust?

oh and is that a legit muffler? or is it a "muffler"
