    immobiliser issue

    Hi guys,

    My 1995 Disco has central locking and the immobiliser. I have to open the car with the key as I believe the remotes were ditched a long while ago. Over the last few days, my immobiliser has been playing up in that I will open the drivers door but the immobioliser stays on and the indicators flash. This happens if I open any door before the drivers door but it is a first for the drivers side. Any ideas what may be the issue and if it gets worse, can i disconnect the immobiliser?

    Is it a factory alarm/immobiliser?

    If it's not an ES model (leather seats, sunrooves...) then it's an aftermarket jobbie.

    I'm assuming it is a 95MY & not a 96MY sold in 95.

    I have same problem on 97TDI factory immobiliser,mine will lock with remote but not unlock.If i then unlock with key immobilser kicks in.It is then a matter of locking and unlocking until the things decides to work.Hope somebody has some ideas on this bloody annoying out in the bush.

    some discoverys had a micro switch mounted on the top of drivers door lock key barrel operated by a plastic cam. take the door trim off and check it is not jammed, worn or full of dust.

    During the first year we owned the 95 V8, we were trying to find what the black box was under the bonnet. Even went to a LR dealer in South Brisbane and they did not know, So I Googled the name on the box. Turned out to be a LR installed immobiliser. Previous owner had fixed the immobiliser, just cut the wiring .

    If its a factory immobizer, you could try disconnecting the car battery for a while. Then re sych the Fob by standing near the front of the vehicle and pressing the fob open button 3 times, it may fix a glitch. Nothing to lose by trying.
    Make sure you have your radio code handy though.

    Hi guys, thanks for the advice, it is an ES so looks like it's a factory fit. It seems to be behaving itself at the moment so all is good. Took her on a "long" run yesterday, round trip of about 200k's. Set the cruise to about 110 and she performed well with no issues at all.

    Averaging about 20 ltrs per 100k at the mo so not too bad really.

    Will keep an eye on the immobilizer and follow the advice if she goes chest up.

    I have a 98 LS and I am pretty sure this is a painful design feature. The battery in my central locking key-fob died one camping trip and I was only left with the key. Defenitely had to always lock, then unlock the drivers door with the key to turn the imobiliser off. Seemed to turn itself back on after a while if it was left unlocked.

    A real pain of a feature as my wife only ever had a key and she got caught out a couple of times at the shops with the thing not starting.

    I had the local 4WD shop just disable the immobiliser. The computer port on the Disco lets you do it if you have the correct gear.

    Ive got an ES model as well which is a 1995 V8.You may just have to re sync it.If its the single button remote it is pretty easy to do.All you will need is another person to help you.The sequence to do it should be on here somewhere.Just try a search of it.Also cruising you should be getting better then 20l per 100km.I have a bullbar with winch,heavy duty steering guard,265x75 all terrains,and sliders and i can get just over 16 litres per 100 on the freeway.You may need to check your Air Flow meter as well.

    I think that the procedure recommended by It'sNotWorthComplaining! is just you need.

    We have to take in mind, that the steering column key barrel has a coil, that activates our keyfob in order to receive its signal, so you must allow it to communicate its code before to intend to start.
    One important thing is to keep keyfob and key together with the ring provided.
    If you deactivate the standard alarm trough the EKA code, and You want to use your disco without remote and alarm, you should keep the remote out, otherwise it will activate the system again when it comes nearly to the key barrel.
