Thread: disco 1 poor head lights

I've been quite pleased with my headlights on the Disco - at one stage they were the only thing that really seemed to work properly!

But I must admit I've driven some machines with rotten headlights, so by comparison these would seem good.

how did you do the wiring, was it through a new relay or just through th original wiring. I had ****ty lighting in mine as well and changed to the same globes as the ones you chose and they are fantastic. the original wiring will not handle the extra load very well and will prob burn out easily.if the gauge of the firing isnt rated right there wont be enough good current to supply the globes.Definately better to run it through an external relay like you would for spot lights.

thanks rwethryet I haven't changed the wiring to a relay yet but that was the next thing on my list to do.Also should I look at changing the wiring to the plug as well as fitting a relay?

if you use the excisting wiring as the trip wire for the relay all should be good

have a good look at your lenses, they could be losing their shine - if that is the case it doesnt matter what globes you use it wont help. lenses are straight forward to replace and not very expensive.

My trucks had the relay mod and i cant reccomend it enough. Very clear white light.

Check your voltage at the globe. This could be part of your problem.I have a 96 disco and i run a Piranha superloom with 90/100 globes. I am not afraid of the dark anymore. The superloom is a plug and play system. Has 2 relays, fuses and is ready to go. It also has a trigger for your driving lights.

Be wary of running higher voltage globes on stock wiring... you will burn out the switch!
