Dizzy loose and turned retarding the ignition timing?
Afternoon All, one of those Saturday simple things that has turned to £$%£$^&%&^%
Ok 3.9 V8 duel fuel has been running perfectly, replaced leads, plugs dist and rotor and coil in the last 3000km.
Parked up last night, change serpentine belt this morning, went to fire it over to check belt.
backfire through air filter and now refuses to start................ turns over wants to start, fuel in rail has spark
what am i missing what should i try next ?
Dizzy loose and turned retarding the ignition timing?
Sounds like you might have damaged the air flow meeter.
try holding your foot to the floor on the throtal and start it on petrol.
It should kick a bit and then start.
Mine dose the same from time to time.
no movement in the dissy, tried with foot to the floor its close but just wont fire , recharging the battery at the moment
As you had a backfire, just to be sure have a look behind the Plenum chamber and see if any of the hoses blew off. The larger hose that comes from the Throttle body to the rear of the plenum. If off it won't start or run correctly
well i have all i need for it to fire but it just wont, its close but, spark fuel and air
have left for the day let the battery get to full charge and let the plugs dry out
and will try again in the morning and check it all again.
the dizzy reference was more to it hadn't moved for timing the rotor spins fine.
all hoses are inplace
thanks all for suggestion and points to check will update tommorow
Once batt is charged and you are sure the timing is set correctly (I would take out no1 plug and reset the timing that way for "****s and giggles"), with all leads plugged in and you can hear the fuel pump going with fuel at the rail, try another thing.......lock then unlock the truck by the drivers door, done this a few times to reset the immobiliser...anything is worth a crack![]()
well it took a while but i found the problem, this morning with the fully charged battery, i finally got it to fire just, when running the was a high pitch wine, closer looking into the issue shows that the diaphragm in the gas mixer that after the airflow meter prior to the chamber appears to be the issue if i hold this back it runs , looks like the back fire did some damage.
