    Auto transmission fluid

    Hi Guys,
It's been 30,000k since I replaced the transmission fluid on the 300TDI. I see you can get Dextron 111 and wondering if ok to use this in replacement for the Dextron 11D. I understand that I will only be able to get around 5 litres out due to the fluid getting stuck in the torque converter, in this case I would have a round a 60/40 mix of dextron 11d & 111 and wondered if thats ok?
What brands are you guys using?

    Cheers

    Mark

What's the fluid spec required and what transmission (i'm guessing a ZF ?)

FWIW Dex III is no longer a current spec either, GM no longer license any fluids other than the current Dex VI although blenders still blend fluids complying with the older specifications, there's no guarantee they continue to meet the specification, but if you bought from one of the majors it would be a pretty safe bet it would be fine.
All GM Dexron fluids are backwards compatible too, ie. later spec fluids are fine to use where an older fluid was specified in a GM transmission.
Not sure this flies with ZF's etc.

BTW I posted up a ZF fluid spec chart somewhere, probably in the Good Oil now ?

[edit]BTW, some transmission shops can flush and replace all the fluid by hooking the 'box up to a transmission flushing machine.
Have no idea on $ though.

<2nd edit> here's a link to the ZF approvals list, and some ZF compatible fluids http://www.aulro.com/afvb/994484-post17.html
