Hi Guys,
I resently bought Fusion's (Micks) Red 300tdi on Evilbay with the intention of getting it back on the road. I did a trip to Ballarat to Central Auto Wreckers last monday and picked up a shopping list of parts:
Steering Wheel
Drivers seat
Rear Seat belts
Newish gaiters for the shift knobs
Steering linkages guard
oh yeah and a 300tdi with 278,000ks on it (within a few k's of whats on the original motor)
For those that know this car, they might be interested to see the damage to the blown motor and the change over so i'll post up some picks soon on my progress.
I haven't owned a Disco before so any advise or answers to dumb questions would be greatly appreciated![]()

Plenty of info around here about what to look out for and do with a D1/300tdi.
There is a gotcha with early and late model engines in that they changed the size of the alternator pulley (later model is smaller). Apart from the belts being a different size it screws up your tacho readings if you use a different size pulley than what was originally fitted.
You know where I am if you want to physically look at anything on mine (its an auto though).
If you wanted a minimum TODO list for the engine this would be mine:
- change the timing belt/tensioners
- pull the sump, remove a couple of bearing caps and check the bearing condition, then refit/reseal sump.
- rod the radiator
- fit a low coolant or engine temp alarm
- set the valve clearances
Add to that an oil/filter change and general inspection of hoses and pulley bearings etc and you should be good to go.
Plenty of other stuff that can be done while you are at it (research is half the fun of it), but to me thats a minimum list I'd do to get you going reliably and knowing that its not going to be dead on the side of the road in the near future.

Hi mate, pics are always appreciated on this site.
Might be worth getting an exchange short motor if the head is still good to use.
I got a short motor from bruce davis for about $2400, fully reco'd with new pistons, bearing etc etc.
