    Windscreen Trims

So I need to replace the windscreen on my 96 Disco.

Rang up a few places and was surprised to get a quote for $281. Cool. So I made a booking, only to be called back 5 minutes later and told that the windscreen trims 'have' to be replaced and they only used genuine LR trims and that would be another $400 thank you. What? How's that possible. Is everything made from chocolate?

    Anyone had the same experience?
The top trim looks a bit tired and could probably do with replacing but the other three still look fine.
FleaBay doesn't give me any hits so I am thinking there can't be much demand for them.
    Anyone sourced some cheaper?
    Thanks

    Ryan

But I thought the windscreen was glued/bonded in and the trims were basically just that, trims i.e. just there for show.

you are kind of right, but the trims kind of wrap around the screen and also get glued in when the screen is installed which means when you remove the screen they are usually destroyed in the process.
    hope this explnation helps......

Had a screen replaced for $300 about7 year ago and they used the original moulds as they were ok according to the fitter. Was great for about 2 years then drops of water started to appear on the inside of the screen. It was where there was a slight blemish on the screen and it seems that the glue/silicone didn't stick/dry well in that place. Put up with it for a few years and the top of the screen progressivly became worse. In the end got a new screen last month thru O'briens under insurance for nothing with new moulds. Windscreen does not leak at the moment but the slack asses didn't fit the top corners properly and now have wind noise above 50km/h. Will take it back and get it fixed for free when I have a chance.

Don't use the old moulds as they will leak eventually!!!!

    Cheers Luke
