A few new mystery problems ????

    (V8 on gas here)

Okay decided to finally get the regulator for the front passenger window so my wife would stop hating the car as much, got in to take it to the shop and the battery was flat...completely out of the blue! Admittedly I haven't been driving it more than once a week for a while now but it hasn't shown any signs of being even remotely flat at all until right now when it was totally flat. Jump started it and it all fired up just fine and started again after I stopped it for a few hours. A couple of days later...completely flat again

One thing I will say is that when starting on gas it takes a good couple of tries and about ten seconds of ticking over (even when I try to turn it off and into the on position multiple times to prime it before trying) to fire it up. If the car was last used in petrol mode and I go to start it on petrol it fires up straight away just like you'd expect an EFI engine to do. I always thought that would wear down the battery but it hasn't yet and it's been doing the same thing for ages. The only different thing that happened before it went flat is that I took it on a pretty long drive from Melbourne out to the Yarra Valley and drove home late at night with headlights on the whole time...alternator perhaps? I would think I'd get a warning light for that kind of thing no?

Also the other night at a gig the hazard lights started doing some weird stuff. I was loading my equipment out of a venue, going back and forth, and my wife decided to wait in the car. She was in the front passenger seat and I locked her in with the remote while I went to get my other stuff. I came back and apparently the hazard lights had been going on and off the whole time...looked like something to do with the alarm...never heard of that one before? Is the Disco security system that good that it can sense someone in the car when it's locked even though they're not doing anything???

Also I've noticed a bit of a leak in the rear around the fuel tank which could very likely be fuel since it's full at the moment...only it looks kind of oily (I'm hoping it might just be dirty fuel and not a leaking diff or anything)...I've attached some pics:

Also I've got to decide which oil to put in her because it's running a little low and I'll just top it up until I change it properly...I've read the "oils ain't oils" threads but I think I'm more confused after doing that so any suggestions would be great

Okay if you got through all that thank you so much for reading and I owe you a beer...come to one of my gigs in the future and I'll buy you one

    YA

Well I'll answer one of my own questions here, about the oil...I basically saw that lots of you use Penrite oils and that's what I used to use in my old Ford V8s (one 289 and one 351) so I went to the Penrite website and it has a big section where you tell it what kind of car you have and it tells you all the kinds of oil to use all through the car...all Penrite products of course but from what everyone says they are a good oil to trust and that's taken a fair bit of the confusion out of it! I'm off to Repco to get me some HPR15

Your Disco will probably have the motion sensor near the rear vision mirror. If it senses any movement it will make the alarm go off and your blinkers to flash. At least its still working

since only your hazards went off, maybe the horn is disconnected from yours for the alarm.
my hazards flash and the horn sounds continually, above the mirror is a object that has 2 like little speaker grills, that is the motion detector.

Check you battery with a multi tester if it goes below 12 volts after a couple cranks it probably needs replacement.

Have you gone a visited the seller of the Disco yet? and broken his legs , because the amount of problems you have had with that Disco, you must have a very calm demeanor , I would have gone around to his house and blown him up by now
As for the oil leak? if it is oil under the petrol tank that's a new one.
It must be petrol leaking, maybe the fill hose has perished?

As for cranking on LPG, I just fitted a new battery and mine fires first turn of the key, when the battery was going it would take a few revs of the engine before it would fire

Well some people say I'm a little too calm at times...when I get to boiling point I'll probably flip out but for now I'm determined...

Okay just jumped the car, put it in the driveway and while off the battery reads 11.9v, when I turned it on it was reading around 14v so looks like the alternator is ok...(oh gps now my multimeter isn't working properly and I've gotta go grab my other one...maybe I'm just cursed :-S) and I just tried cranking it again and it won't start, just clicks away...it was started about half an hour ago. Just measured across the battery again and it's reading around 12v maybe 11.9v...make that 12.1v. So why won't she crank?

Well after more testing I've decided it's a knackered battery...and tested while on with an analogue multimeter too and no jumping around so there isn't a gone diode in the alternator either.

What size battery do you guys recommend for one of these babys? It's currently got a century 440cca 105rc in it.

Best load tester is your headlights. If they go dull when you turn the key to "crank" the battery is dead-ish. Or your terminals are dirty. If the head lights don't dim, then your starter may be stuffed.

These days batteries don't last very long.
They usually die when you need them most. Like last Monday it was pouring rain and I had a specialist appointment in 40 mins time , I jump[ed into the Disco and the bnattery was cactus, lucky my boat was parked next to it with a good battery I could jump start. I got to the appointment ok, but was a drowned rat.
