Just a thought, what type of fuel are you using? I try to put BP Ultimate 98 RON in mine as the difference between it and normal unleaded is huge
Suck on the hose, if the diaphram is toast it won't hold vac, with the cap off the dissy you will see the rod move the base plate. The factory ones fail pretty quickly, I use the reco ones they use better rubber in them and seem to last. Reco ones are a fraction of the price of a stock one as well.

Drove from Mel to QLD getting 13.5l/km, going to 20ish+ 4wd, use a timing gun, set static to 9 deg (vac advance disconnected) then connect it should go around 20 or so, no vac advance if that does not happen.
hi everyone thanx for ur help i got M R AUTOMOTIVE AT REDCLIFFE QLD to tune my car after replacing sparks rotor button airflow meter vac hose on wrong way around cold start wire on the feul sensor i went home on 575 on 3/4 of a tank that was 2 weeks ago i have now gotten 665 out of her last week to the red light at the moment i am on the coast just done less then half a tank nearly 400 very happy in dead but i do notice if i push it around the 110 it uses more i generally sit on 95 to 100 today i was sitten on the 110 in the speed zones so has doen very well today
hi agree when i run 98 like i have today runs awesome smooth and better economy
I've just had the MAF meter replaced, but with little change in fuel consumption. A while ago I replaced the vacuum advance, but I have not thoroughly checked all the vacuum hose connection points. Great idea. Will do tomorrow. Hopefully I can stop getting 20l/100km on highway and 35l/100km round town and stop getting high on the fumes. I dred reversing sometimes if the windows are down. Thanks.
Hi guys,
I've just changed from e10 (I know, I know) to 98. This seems to have got my figures down to just under 20l/100k. I changed the vac advance and mech says my timing is spot on so........
Assume this is normal. Mostly town driving in a 94 facelift es v8
Phil
the cheap vac advance units vary in quailty, some have no or very little movement and some have lots with a very soft spring.
there are ways to test and tune the D1 injection system with a timing light and a modern automotive multi meter (must have temp and m/s pulse), without the need for a plugin diagnostic tool (although something to check fuel pressure, engine vacuum and exhaust gasses is handy). when they are set up in standard trim they should get better than 14L/100km on the highway.
My fuel figures, over 5 tanks for both caluations, 250 000 km 1998 3.9 manual V8. Highway calculations are with a loaded car (camp gear etc)
Around town 17.5l/100km
Highway 5-10km/hr above speed limit (By speedo): 13.75l/100km
