Don't think you'll know for sure until you get the same size tyres and go for a drive.
Seeing as you appear to be in Sydney's West, pop over to Peter at Rangeparts & get him to have a listen to the noise.
He's pretty cluey with LR transmissions & will steer you in the right direction.
Make sure you get your tyres sorted out first though otherwise you'll hear Rovercares words again - 4 tyres the same size are an absolute must on a Disco.

HEY HEY HEY!... there is no need for that at all! some of us dont have the experience of others, whether someone is new to the forums, or been on for a while. We are here to help eachother, not abuse eachother. Im sure someone as yourself who has been here for ages, (as indicated by your post count), you should be setting the example so politely... pull your head in!
this is my first land rover let alone 4wd, a few times i've asked questions in the past and some people have helped, and others have headed down "there is a search option, use it" sometimes using the search on here, you end up with far too many options to vett through.
I had no idea that different tyre sizes would make a difference. I do now.
Well i ended up deciding on going back to the original 16x7 wheels what came out from the factory. Went to the wreckers and picked up 5 with 225/75/16 BF Goodrich AT tyres with good tread for $150. The reason why i went back to the original steel wheels was two fold. Every time i hit a bump the back tyres scrub out big time, so the rim offset which i was running was too wide. Its not practical for us to fit a lift kit to the Disco at the moment hence my reasons for reverting back to the original wheels.
I fitted the 16x7's to the car and took it for a drive, no sounds, but mind you the front prop shaft is still removed, so tomorrow i'll re-install the front propshaft and see how it goes.
As everyone has said get the same size tyres on it pronto, pulling the front prop shaft wil get out out of the poo for the moment but it really does affect the handling.
If it winds up to much you will hear an almighty bang the car will jump and you will have several less teeth on one of the 3 diffs, most likely the transfercase one
we live and learn from our mistakes, how do I know about the second paragraph
