Do you have the service history for the vehicle? That is the only question you need ask, if the answer is no then you might need to ask a few more.
buying a 98 disco v8 on gas, what are some questions i should ask?
i know to ask about timing belt, gas bottle expiry and check for rust but apart from that im pretty clueless
it has trouble with 2 of the door locks is this a common issue?

A good service history is important but what the disco was used for and what type of drivers owned it are also good clues as to what type of life the disco has had. If your unsure take someone with you who you trust a second opinion is always useful. The door locks can be a problem but are relatively cheep to fix (do a search on this forum). I have a v8 on gas and am very pleased with it although I did have a few small hiccups with the gas system (now fixed with the help of bee-utey)
comes with all paperwork and receipts for any work done, the current owners have just travelled around Oz in it so it cant be to much of a lemon (in theory)
its auto
mmej what kind of fuel economy do you get on gas roughly?
Check that the ABS works. I had a dodgy dealer remove the globe so I didnt get the "ABS" warning.
When you turn on the ignition the ABS light should glow, then once you start and move off it will extinguish. If it stays on your abs needs work (common prob but can cost for new sensors - as mine did) My guy pulled the globe out so that it looked like it was working - but wasnt.
Check ALL the electrics - it will take you a good 20 mins of pressing buttons - it is worth the effort.
Check the cruise control - often fails due Vacuum failure - not a great drama but may be able to haggle price down.
Check the usual sign of prangs. Chassis and Sill damage. If it has lots of scrapes underneath it has probably been used in the bush - no major dramas but may indicate hard life.
Tow Bar - Has it been pulling a 30ft van around the country - hard life.?
Again these a no dramas but without a solid service history I would haggle them down on price.
Check rear washer - often breaks off.
Rust around Alpine Lights (Little windows high up the back)
There are LOTS of Disco's around so dont rush into buying the first one you like. There are lots and lots for sale. Take your time. There are still quite a few good ones. (And plenty of dogs!)
thanks
I don't believe that D1s have ABS. D2s have ABS and three amigos to go with it.
