95 Disco Series 1
Hi all, just wanted to touch base with you all as I am a "newbie". I have owned my Landy Disco 1995 Series 1 for nearly 3 years now. We fell in love the very first time a laid eyes on each other and the love affair just keeps going
. However,
, I encountered a problem last Friday, when it just stopped. My mechanic told me that it was a rotar, or something, and that it needed replacing, so it was and spark plugs and lots of other stuff, but it was missing and back firing, so I took it back that night. He then rings me Saturday and tells me that I have a compression problem and that it will cost thousands of dollars to fix. Does anyone out there know anything about this and can you recommend a good mechanic that knows what he's doing please and guestimated cost to fix or replace engine.
Cheers
Rob

hey bro!
Me too, still considering if I am going to get a Disco. People always say you need to spare a few thousand dollars every year just to fix your land rover, if you fortunately or unfortunately own one.
Well, instead fix it, why not get a complete engine from a wrecker. Makes the job easier. Well, that's my father did last time.

fixed problem
Hi airman08
If you don't own a land rover you don't know what you are missing out on, truly. Even though I have had this problem, I fell in love with her about 3 years ago and I would NOT part with her. On the whole they run very well, my family loves her - we go fishing in her all the time and the kids can't wait to get in her and go for a drive. Take the plunge, you won't regret it even if you have to spend a little bit of money on her occassionally, it will be worth it. I'm sure this sentiment is shared by everyone on this site.
Cheers

Biggest problem with any car is maintenance, and the lack of it. Landrover are no exception.
