Hi guys, long time no posty!
I just wanted to get something straight, to make sure I'm understanding Rave and all these threads I'm reading properly...
I'm trying to remove the transmission sump so I can get at the kickdown cable as it is stuck on. Is this correct:
Drain fluid.
Find you don't have a spanner big enough to remove the dipstick tube.
Have a go at removing the sump anyway.
Can't get to the passenger side rear bolt on the sump...
Try to remove crossmember because you'll have to anyway and it might help getting to that bolt...
...Find that the crossmember is held on by some bolts that are cross threaded and some that are not even done up, so once you take it off you probably should get some new bolts...
...but from looking at it, to get the crossmember off you need to support the transmission and unbolt it from the x-member.
Just to clarify, I'm just trying to get the pan off the bottom of the transmission, not take the whole thing out
Is this all correct??
On the V8 Disco I have, the crossmember (4" round) is just a chassis brace and does not support the transmission. You will find that the transmission mounts are further back and higher up on the chassis.
I did this to change my transmission fluid and filters a couple of weeks ago.No need to undo the mounts just the round crossmember, the dipstick/filler tube and about 6 or 8 bolts with wedges which hold the sump on.
