With $7,500 you could get an early model Discovery 2 with a TD5. More room in the ass end and motor has more pull...

    Hi tekkado,
If your budget is tight the TD 5 comes with it's own set of issues. Whilst an excellent engine, performance etc etc you are starting to move into computerised magic. The older 300 Tdi is a pretty basic unit, mechanical fuel pump, no computers, injectors at a reasonable price. Earlier you were talking about costing a bomb to fix and parts etc. Possibly might be worth putting your hard earned into an exceptional 300 Tdi than a Tdi that could well be up for some TLC in this sort of price range.
Again just my opinion, others no doubt will vary.

    Hi tekkado,
This is just based on the tone of the post, KISS principle. Funds and technology, just advice, your choice.

There's a couple of Tdi's here that could be worth a look.

that seems a pretty clean unit and the money is resonable, don't be worried because it has the temp alarm, that should be a standard fitting to help prevent sudden overheating and it also give a more accurate temp reading of the head rather than the gauge which is a wonder gauge.
on that note look also for a white expansion tank just behind the battery and a brass plug in the radiator and the thermostat housing, if it has these it MAY mean that it has been looked after by someone who has an idea on land rovers.
pretty simple and honest motor and i find it easy enough to work on (better than the SD33T nissan) and the parts are around what i was paying for the nissan
