    Electric fans

    [QUOTE=bigcarle;1545903]FIT AN ENGINE MONITOR!!
    more accurate reading of temp then, the temp gauge is only that a gauge and it lies.
    previous info of rodding radiator cant hurt and from what i have read here almost aperiodic maintenance item
    info from this forum suggests that the temp gauge only moves to hot when it is over 100C which is getting to be too late[/QUOTE

    First thank you all, now onto business, viscuss fan is good only thing keeping engine at correct temp in traffic. I live on the Gold Coast (Nerang) so I will be taking the Disco to "Ricks" for P gasget, but in the mean time where can i check for fuses and relay's, as the fans are not comming on. I once had a similar prob with a magna, went to magna wrec told the guy what the prob was and he riped out 6 relays from a wrec and said try these, the first one did the job and off I went.

    I was under the assumption the electric fans are only for the A/C. I have never seen them run any other time except when it the A/C is on.

    I have seen other vehicles with an overheat function whereas the A/C fans cut in during overheat but did not think this happened on a Disco but anyone correct me on this one.

    Brettsky, how hot was hot - off the gauge, top end of normal?

    Cheers

    I'm not sure on the TDI, but on the V8's, there is a sensor with a 2 wire plug that sits on the Themostat cover, this controls the fans in overheat situation. When engine is switched off the fans can run for 10mins after switch off if the temperature is higher than the sensor specs when engine is off even if the temp gauge is normal on the dash. I had this problem before I had the Rad rodded.
